The situation: 1-2 game 9-handed. Table is fairly tight and passive preflop with lots of limping. People are playing straightforward for the most part.

Hero: YWG, fourth time playing live poker at casino after getting back into game last November, so still green. TAG image. Have been raising a good amount of pots early with little resistance. Have only shown down one hand so far, TPGK to win a decent pot. Have folded AK to a raise from a nut peddler on an A-6-3 flop, but peddler showed A6.

Villain: older middle aged Asian guy. Has a huge stack and was apparently doing well prior to me arriving, and it's apparent why. He's calling with absolutely any two cards and flopping outlandishly well. He's bet top pair for 3 barrels a few times and has gotten paid off. Rarely raises preflop. Hasn't shown any bluffs.

Hand 1

Hero ($300) has KdJd on button. V limps from EP, 3 others limp, Hero raises to 10. V calls, all others fold.

Flop: 10 6 4

V checks, Hero bets 15. V quickly calls.

Turn: 9

V checks. Hero checks.

River: K

Villain instantly bets 40. Hero?

Hand 2

Hero ($250) has J J in early position. Hero raises to 10, Villain calls from late position. All others fold.

Flop: 9 8 6

Hero checks, V bets 10, Hero calls.

Turn: 3

Hero checks, V bets 20, Hero calls.

River: 6

V instantly bets 50. Hero?

Why do you bet flop in hand 1 but check flop in hand 2?

I think I'd fold in hand 1. We look like we have AK yet he still bet the river K. We don't beat many Ks either, and you say he hasn't shown a bluff.

Call in hand 2. Your hand is so under represented the way you've played it. No way he puts you on an overpair.

As an aside, it would be great if you could include the pot size on each street as a courtesy for your readers. That way they don't have to do the math

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

In hand 1, I thought for a while then folded. I didn't have a great read at the time but I didn't see him betting a 10 that way, so I'm as played it seemed like I am really only beating a busted spade draw here. V showed the 8s.

Hand 2, I did indeed call. V showed 10-7 for the flopped straight.
