So I've been thinking about this hand all week. From a 1/2 session last Friday night. Didn't have much time at the table so I don't have much of an image and I don't have a great read on anyone there but the table has been wild. Rarely will a flop be seen without a raise and the raises tend to come in the $10-$20 range

V1 has $200+, UTG+1, late 40s early 50s white guy. Seems quiet and tight.
Hero has $190, Mid position
V2 has $200+, CO, Mid 30s white guy, been complaining about lack of good cards recently.

Preflop: V1 calls, UTG+2 calls, Hero raises to $15 with JJ, V2 calls, UTG+2 folds, V1 calls

Flop: 346
V1 checks, Hero bets $30, V2 folds, V1 calls

Turn:7
V1 bets $50, Hero calls

River:Q
V1 bets $100, Hero...

Hero folds. Absent reads, this is a set at a minimum but I get the feeling this is A7 or 78. Literally there is nothing in his range we beat by the river.

Sorry, I mis-wrote the hand to start off, turn was a 7, meaning he would have filled a gut shot on it.

AN old, quiet, tight guy took the lead from you after flatting twice pf. Thinking you're good is leveling yourself.

Very few bluffs in his range. Smells like a set

Dammit...

Mistake #2, V1 is the younger guy, V2 the older. Sorry about the mistake. Was posting this from work and got distracted mid post. I'd delete and re-post with the corrections, but it won't let me edit or delete the OP...

So the guy who called was mid 30s, complaining about not getting good cards recently...

This. Minimum a set but even an OMC is checking back a set at some point on a 4-straight board. I'd wager my unborn first born this is 55.

I stopped reading the thread when I saw your post. I agree. He was trying to limp in with a small pair, hit his set.

I don't think you're good. Have to fold. (I think he could have easily had 45, 55, or 56)

And if the raise ranges were $10-$20, I make it $21 with JJ preflop.

Hands you lose to: sets, two pair, straights

Hands you beat: A2, 78

is he really turning any of those hands into bluffs on the river? If he is, it's not frequent enough to warrant a call here IMO. It's tough to really make a judgement call because we need to know if he would take this line with 76. If he is a good value bettor then we def can't call. If his range is very polarized and he is the "i thought you had a straight" regardless of whether that hand makes sense for you to have, he just says it because it's a possible hand that his whatever can't beat, then you only beat a bluff and I'm not sure if a guy like that is firing a bluff twice.

Fold

Hand result:

Spoiler:
The story didn't add up to me. I felt like if the guy had a set he would have checked raised me on the turn and let me bury myself further and not lead out. And I really didn't think he'd call $15 preflop with something like A5, or even 33 or 44.

I thought maybe he had a pair of 9s or 10s and was trying to push me off something middling. I called, guy said "Good call" and turns over K4. I turn over my Jacks, take down the pot with everyone wondering how on Earth I made that call.

Part of me was glad I read the situation correctly, I just didn't feel he had anything that strong based on how he played, but I'm still not very convinced I played this correctly and probably should have folded.

I'd fold for sure, if not turn, definitely river

I think this is an interesting hand, and I wonder how the 2+2 community would vote on the river, whether to call or fold.

Anyways, with @Scorcho28's permission, I'm reposting it here so it can be voted on and we get to see what the consensus is
