1/2 - Good Play, Run Good? 1/2 - Good Play, Run Good?

Question: Does this describe winning at 1/2? What would others add? Skills? Strategies?
  • Pre-flop looking to play top 15% range in tight games, loose games look for hands that easily make/draw to the nuts
  • Positionally selective with hands
  • Situationally selective with players
  • Watching exposed cards to identify bottom of villain ranges for a situation/position and help w/ taking future reads
  • On occasion running a squeeze-play, check-raise, blocking-bet, or floating where makes sense
  • When getting 2-3x my buy-in take a legit 45min food/coffee break, pocket the winnings, and re-sit at new table with fresh buy-in (1x)
  • Try to limit session to 6-8 hours as to not get too tired or mistake prone

Results:
  • Friday (6hrs): Start 75BB finish 451BB, saw AA/KK, flop sets, and nut flushes multiple times (thinking this is just run good)
  • Saturday (5hrs): Sat 75BB finished 232BB, played and collected modest pots, session defined by holding QQ on a board with 555 ... villain tried to rep case-5 with all in, called and caught a double up to that 230BB mark
  • Sunday(3hrs): Sat 75BB finished 252BB ... played modest and took some pots until it I 4bet all in pre-flop w/ QQ on button (knowing QQ was better than bottom of their ranges both short stacked) ... one villain held AA and board hit hard with 4 clubs to make Q-high flush to reach the 220BB mark
  • Monday (4hrs): Sat 75BB finished 253BB ... bunch of 2/5 regs playing 1/2 and it was fast (for me) ... played tight/fast to the 125BB mark ... a tourist showed up who flopped full house 5s over 2s ... no-bet flop/undersized turn bet from villain ... river comes A to give hero better full house of Aces over duces .... hero 3bet all in and got the call to take down his stack

tl;dr:
  • had a consistent weekend catching fish (with some run-good) but looking to improve beyond just doing that ... what skills/game-development would others look to add? Eventually wanting to reach the 2/5 limit later this year or next.

IN B4 LOCK!!!!

Seriously blog type posts about results need to go to poker goals and challenges. If you have actual questions about hands, post them as a thread. If you have bankroll/winrrates questions, take them to the containment thread.

Your questions are too general to possibly answer. I suggest reading the stickies and coming back with follow-up questions.

Congrats on the success. Ranges are good but will need to switch gears sometimes depending on table dynamics and so you aren't easy money.

Be careful shoving QQ in a cash game unless u or villain is short. It's much different than a tourney in this respect. I made this mistake once and lost to KK and the very next game made the lay down and guy showed AA. You'll see far more shoves PF with AA/KK than AK/AQ or lower pairs. With > 40BB I think the QQ PF shove is -EV. some here may disagree but I'm happy to see their reasoning on that.
