Villain in this hand is a 20-something WG, playing TAG. Seems to be raising a fair amount from the BTN and then taking down pots with c-bets.

Hero is a MAWG, probably seems TAGgy to nitty. Effective stacks are $335.

Three limps to Villain who limps on the BTN, SB completes, Hero checks the BB with A 4…6 to the flop.

AsQdTd ($12)

Hero bets $5, folds to Button who raises to $25, SB folds, Hero…?

Call and reevaluate on turn. You don’t want to raise because he’s only continuing with better. And if villain really is raising a ton on the button, and he DIDN’T raise this time, there’s a good chance this flop missed him completely.

I’m checking my entire range to him on the turn. Big question is, is he the kind of player to double or triple barrel too much? If so I’d be considering check-calling the whole way down on most turns and rivers.

Yes, just flat. For 100bb, I'd probably just gii, but for 150+, flatting is good. (I'd bet bigger on the flop unless you were hoping the $5 would get a raise.)

Call as played, not sure about the flop lead either. What's our goal with this bet? It could be fine but it's not obvious to me what we're trying to accomplish.

I wanted to start getting some money into the pot, since it would suck if it was checked through.

Why does it suck?

Id flat flop raise ap.

Otf i’d check, we dont want to be bloating the pot with a hand that has SDV and have to draw expensively if someone raises (there are a lot of KJ combos, 100% or close to it, some two pairs), it’s nice to have NFDs in our check call range. It’s not the end of the world if it checks through. The only way we are making money on this hand is if we overflush somebody, and if someone turns or rivers a flush, ideally we’d want to draw as cheaply as possible and put in the x/r. We can even overbet turn and overbet river

Also, the thing is, with the flop being 6-way, it’s not super likely that the flop will check thru. It’s really hard to say how often it checks thru but i dont think it’s some small % like 10%. So a lot of times people will bet for you already, and I just dont think a lead here is that great

When you bet and get called here, which is going to be often, you’ll have to end up x/c’ing turn anyway unless it’s a diamond anyway

Yeah I x flop rather than lead out to build. I’m only doing that with objectively strong hands like two pair+ and maybe some absolute monster draws. This hand we don’t care if we get free cards and we don’t care if it gets checked down to showdown if we don’t hit and we don’t care if someone takes the lead and bets flop. The only scenario I really don’t like is building a massive pot OOP so I x.
