1/2 NL. I have already played an hour into the session. Hero is an Asian male , mid 30s, projecting a somewhat loose image on a mostly loose passive table. Started the session with $200 and had got my stack up to approximately $220 but during the first hour , I did lose a hand with A10 of spades where I had raised to $10 preflop in MP, got called by 5 players , the flop was Axx , I c-bet 35 and the shortstack to my left goes all in for 72 total, everyone folds back to me, I call his all in and lose to his AQ. I was left with $150 after that hand and after another orbit or 2, I now have around $145 in front of me.

Villain- white male in his mid 30s. He is sitting to my right. Playing TAG and appears to be the best player at the table. He has the biggest stack on the table, appears to be at least $1600 in front of him. This is a max $500 buy in game so it appears he may have been playing and running well based on my observations. I did not ask him how he ran up his stack. His stack remained relatively the same for the 1 hour that I had played at the table.

On to the hand:

Hero is dealt A10 diamonds in the small blind. I have $145 in front of me.

Preflop:
Everyone folds to the big stack villain to my right who is on the button. He predictably raises to $12. I assume he was trying to take down the blinds. I reraise from the SB to $40 and the BB folds. My logic was to represent strength in the hand with a decent Ax hand against a button raiser. I felt a fold would be too weak and just calling doesn’t help me much if I whiff the flop out of position. The button is now viewing my stack to see how much I had left behind and he ultimately puts me all in and he obviously has me covered.

Thoughts on what Hero should do as played? Comments on Hero’s reraise from the small blind?

I believe as played you gotta call since you committed close to 1/3 of your stack. With 40 in you was pretty much forced to ship it on any flop anyways.

Raising to 40 was horrid imo with A10, especially with only 105 left behind. What did you expect a call from? You folded out everything you wanted him to play. Just my worthless 2 cents.

Agree with x...bad sizing for 3! with your stack.

AP, ATdd is to good a hand to fold getting 1.85-1 on a call. Sorry you lost.

You need about 36% equity to make this call. Its unlikely you have that much. I fold.

This is pretty easy to model out. You need to call 105 to win 292 (minus rake) so you as Mike said you need 36% equity.

The breakeven on 36% equity with ATs is:

66+, AQs+, AQo+

Is your opponent wider or tighter than that?

I think likely tighter, since in my games I only see that type of action either by a certain type of player or with a much tighter range.

To reflect on an earlier point, always talk to the guys around me an try to get a read on how they think about the game. If you could have gotten any insight from villain prior to the hand that would have been hugely beneficial in determining how LAG he was, which will tell you about his likely range here.
