Sitting at a really good table saturday night local casino, quite a few whales. The V in this hand is the biggest of them.

Young asian guy, been playing a really mad and "stupid" loose passive game. Never 3betted pre flop. Calls with any two, plays around 80% of hands pre, donks alot, and guess what, bets 3 streets of min bet for "value". yes, seen him many times bet 2$ flop, turn, river with any kind of pair. This guy, im pretty sure is playing live for the one of the first times ever. He has a friend who is teaching him or explaining him some basic stuff regarding rules.

He's been on a MASSIVE good run, having chipped 2 or 3 guys whole stacks with crazy pots, going allin on the flop with K5o for top pair and drawing the others out on the river by pairing his 5. Seen him going allin many times with rag TP hands and drawing opponents out. Crazy stuff

On this hand, me the hero, a reg with a good solid and creative image open on MP with T9 10$, and get 4 calls, 2 LPs, and the 2 blinds, V is SB.

V covers me, our stacks eff are ~$600

Pot $50
Flop AxKxJ
All check.

Turn Q
V bets pot, Hero calls, all others fold

Pot $150
River 4
V shoves allin (massive overbet) ???? Curious thing is he did it almost instantly when to act, even before you could realize what card the river was. Looks like he had in mind he was going to do it

I tanked for really long, and eventually folded.

What am I supposed to do here? This guy as you imagine could have anything, but why bet so big, what for and what is he representing?

I just didnt get it. If i had T I would have snapped, but I didnt.

After this hand there was a long conversation at the table and he said he had just a pair of A. Usual BS but srsly dont know what I should have done

You played the hand wrong at almost every point leading up to the decision. I'd focus on that.

Indeed, I agree I played this hand wrongly, but for some reason on this table and with the circumstances I played it this way. Main error was probably just calling turn. But just thinking about this V range, what do we put him on? And why would he do it, is it a call or a fold according to what he can have here?

I'd focus on the open in MP with T9o.
(once you realize it's bad you may win more)

I'd also focus on the turn call.
(you want to raise here to charge draws, 2 pair, sets - you only get free rolled by a T+ flush draw.)

But seriously, fold pre. You can possibly open the BTN or CO with it, but even that is probably slightly -EV at best.

If he rips it in without ever looking at the river, I probably sigh call and expect to see a chop a lot. Granted, since he's new there is a non zero chance he has a set or like AK and isn't even thinking about the 4 straight on the board. He's just thinking what a great hand he has.

T9o is a standard open from CO and it won't be -EV (or at least it shouldn't be if you can play post and IP at all). I'd say it's break even at worst, and if a hand is break even we should always be playing it.

If you are asking if you should call off $500 in what is a best case scenario $75 win to you...the answer is no. Try not to bluff catch chop pots for large amounts of money with little to be won.

This hand is also clearly a fold pre, which is where all of the money won/lost begins. Focus on that. A solid preflop game produces an easy postflop game.

Also, one final little gem of meaningless live info, when a villain says "I had xx" after folding a hand. There is one exact hand you can know for absolute certainty they didn't have. It's xx. Meaningless info, but if it helps you sleep better just remember that.

All of this. I tell people my hand all the time once it's over. I can't think of a time I actually told the truth.

Sometimes its better to not kill the betting momentum of some button clicking whales by raising. So i dont think the turn call is all that bad

I feel like he had a 10 probably also... I personally prob would have called, but that is for a lot of money. I would think if he hit the flush, he would have value bet you a little bit better to get a call at the end, but who knows. Oh well- you didn't lose a ton on the hand, and you probably at best was splitting the pot, so I wouldn't worry about this hand too much. Although- stop raising in middle position with junk- unless you are gonna 3bet the flop no matter what.
