1 limp, CO opens to $12, Hero 3bets to $40, only CO calls

FLOP (85): 653hhh
Check, Hero bets 45, V calls

TURN (175):
5s
Check, Hero ?

Hero has 150 behind and V covers.

This is a very standard spot that comes across often. Is checking or shoving the turn with the Ah both okay? I know the conservative ones would say check and take a free card OTR, but then, when are we ever double barreling? If we can get some mid pairs and speculative hands that called with on the flop to fold to a turn shove, why not?

You do realize we only have 150 left right? You're leaving a lol25 dollars for betting the river?

Depends on how sticky V is with one pair. Pretty good odds on a shove as who knows, maybe an Ace or King is good as well. With your stack I think shove is fine

Alot of our range is very vulnerable on this texture and equities drastically change from flop -> river on monotones. Most of our value hands also want to check this texture. I think for this reason we can check AhKx here, but honestly Im not sure what a solver does. I would guess bet 1/3 and check are both done alot, but thats just a hunch.

We also arent folding out anything we beat. Just a few chops with other AK and equity from hands like QJ, which have little equity anyway.

If we bet 1/3 or even check, are we just giving up on later streets when we miss and V decides to fire out?

Imo checking flop is reasonable in a single raised pot, but in a 3bet pot, we are pretty near the bottom of our range and we have a prime bluffing hand against all those medium pairs. When we wiff with A high and no heart / no straight draw I would check fold. I think AhA and KhK make plenty of sense to check - continue. I bet everything else, including this hand. I'd bet a bit bigger just so we're betting the same % on each street. If we were really deep, we'd want to bet this quite large. General rule = the wetter the board, the bigger we bet.

Oh and on the turn I would shove. We can check back our straight draws. To balance that, maybe we'll occasionally bet our big pairs with a heart on the flop and check these back on the turn. We don't want to fold 100% of the time a blank hits the river after betting flop and checking turn.

The spr was 2.3ish we would be stacking off all overpairs on this flop after 3b correct? I can’t think of any overpair I’d check back the flop with. Only reason I’d size the flop smaller is so a turn shove is for a little more, but seems like a standard shove spot
