1/2 Bet the turn or no? 1/2 Bet the turn or no?

Stakes: 1/2 NL

Villain ($300) MP2: Recently moved from another table, been at the table for less than 15 hands. Villain has only had one hand go to showdown where he called a $20 raise pre flop from MP2 with 46o and flopped trip 4s. Appears to be a very loose player.

Hero ($240) BTN.

Three limpers in the pot when it comes around to hero on the BTN who looks up to K K. Hero raises to $16, where SB, UTG +1 and villain all call.

Flop comes 5 6 7. Action is checked around to hero who bets $40. SB folds, UTG +1 folds and villain calls.

Turn comes 4:spade. Villain hesitates for a second before checking and hero checks.

River comes 9. Villain bets out $55 and hero calls. Villain shows down Q Q, and hero takes down the pot.

Should I have fired a second barrel on the turn? The reason I chose to check is because I just saw this player call a $20 raise from the same exact position earlier and thought it was very possible that he had either a 3 or an 8.

Lastly, was my $16 raise pre flop too light? Thank you in advance for the feedback!

pre seems fine. amount is 10 plus 1bb/limper. could go more if you think you'll get a bunch of callers. wouldn't go less.

I think you played it fine. I think b/f the turn against a loose passive is probably slightly better.

And limping QQ, god help me...

Thank you, hitchens97. I appreciate the advice on the turn. In the future I think I will raise a little bit more pre flop.

Preflop and cbet are pretty standard here I think, on this run out I doubt you are really going to be 2 streets of value.
I like the check on turn and go for value in river in general going to be a bit easier to play, as firing out on turn wont achieve as much

i think checking there is fine often you're up against a made straight who wants you to bet for him

the only problem with raising more is that everyone then knows you have a big hand. I know 2 guys who raise AA and KK to 21 everytime and 15 for everything else (lol)

Doesn't sound like he's a strong player so yea I would be bet/folding the turn. If he's a strong player who isn't afraid to bluff I would probably check back the turn since we don't want to play a large pot here and likely aren't going to get more than one street vs hands we beat anyway. I also don't think we have many nutted hands in our range when we opt to make it 16 preflop but maybe you squeeze with middling suited connectors and pairs. I would put you on an overpair here and look to put pressure on you with pair+draw type hands.

Thank you everyone, I appreciate the responses. I am glad to hear that for the most part you guys agree with the way I played the hand. That is a good point about raising too much, Chicagodude.
