1/2 Bet Flop call, Bet Turn call, Bet / Fold River?? 1/2 Bet Flop call, Bet Turn call, Bet / Fold River??

Just a general question.

I've noticed when we have a strong hand but not the nuts, many advocate betting all 3 streets then if a scary river hits like a back door flush or 3 cards straight hits and we get raised, many say to fold. Im not talking about 4 flush or 4 straight cards on board.

Unless we have a huge stack wouldn't it make sense to check the river if you have been called all the way unless you are fairly certain you have best hand? Maybe its just me but I cant see me betting for value on river then folding when 2/3 of my stack is already committed? Yes we may get a missed draw to fold but they too can raise you with nothing.

Thoughts?

But in the interest of not trolling you it depends on:

Your playing tendencies, i.e. what you do with your nutted hands, what you do with your draws, what you do with your two pair hands.
Your V's playing tendencies, i.e. the same thing, what he does with his nutted hands, blah blah blah.

Your stack size. If you are 100bb deep it's very different than if you are 500bb deep.
How strong your hand is compared to the board. There are sometimes when a set is the stone cold nuts on a 3 flush or 3 straight board, and sometimes when you might as well be open mucking.

There is a wealth of information available out there on this site, red some of if and check it out. Good luck.

Seriously. You're approaching the game wrong if you're looking for one-sized-fits-all formulas. Hand strength and reads play key roles here.

* If you have TPGK, you might want to check the river as you have showdown value and you're unlikely to be called with worse or fold out better, but with a flopped set you're missing serious value from that check.
* If V is a total rock nit who's unlikely to go this far without a nuttish made hand, you might want to check that river, but if he's a total calling station who calls way too wide, blast away.
