Villain is an aware very solid regular. Opens wide late, but always solid holdings at showdown. We both sit at $450. Villain has straddled to $4.

OTTH

Hero (AKcc) raises to $16.
Everyone folds, villain calls

Flop ($35): 10 c 2h 8c

Villain checks I bet $20 villain calls.

Turn ($75): 6d

Check check

River ($75): Ah

Villain leads $50

Hero??

Bet turn. We have decent equity but are also happy with a fold. We need to be aggressive with flush draws sometimes, because it's hard to flop flushes and also get paid off.

AP well it looks like we have not much so villain's range can be pretty wide, however he shouldn't call anything we beat. So this looks like a trivial call to me.

You have to call. Good chance V has AQ or AJ or a busted draw.

Huge mistake not betting turn. Betting turn:

1. Continues to represent strong hands like an overpair, TPGK, TT/88. By checking you cap your range which is fine with middling PP, 8x, weaker Tx, and overcards with no draws. But this is not the case we have a monster draw + 6 outs to make TPTK. You also currently have just Ace high, and after V x/c flop we are usually behind. So we won't win the pot by checking it down hardly ever, which incentives us to keep betting especially we good equity when called. By checking back you reduce fold equity on the river and can only win the pot 15/46 times when we hit one of our outs.
2. Builds the pot for when we make a flush. Pots grow exponentially with each street so we're missing out on tons of value when you check behind a big draw
3. Realizes fold equity and maintains it on the river when we miss, a hand like JT is not happy after an UTG raiser goes bet/bet and knows they could face a third bet on the river, not to mention any overcard weakens their hand. You will prevent hands that are ahead like 77/99/89 from realizing their equity

AP snap call, not sure what the hesitation is for

Results: Hero called and villain shows set of 10s.

The reason for the hesitation is because what is a hand, that I beat, that he is flatting flop and leading riv with that he would call a utg raise with? It is less likely he has busted flush draw because I have two clubs in my hand.

His range to call pre, in his spot and playing style, that I am ahead of on river is basically QJ and maybe KQ/Q9 (maybe). Losing to A10, A2, 10s, 8s. 10s and 8s I put less weight on because he didn't c/r flop.

I'm late. My thoughts were would V lead the river if he couldn't beat a pair AA? The bet size gives you 2.5 to 1. Very reasonable. AK is a decent bluff catcher, but V is now betting, why? Sets are so hard to spot and this V gambled pre w/call, still 2pr is a real possibility.
