1/2/5 ACTION table with AA

Hero AsAc in BB with $600 stack
Villain in SB with $800 the maniac action player

Folds to SB V raises to $30
Hero 3bets to $80
Third blind folds V snap calls

Flop Qh 4d 6d
V checks. Hero bets $50. V snap raises all-in (puts me all in for $470 more)

Ive been playin in this table for like a week and saw so many crazy action with almost everyone is pretty new to the game except maybe 2-3 players. The action is so good ive been loving it but lost 3 sessions in a row. The v in this hand is as aggressive as it gets.

I ended up calling he shows Q7dd he hit 7 on the turn and stacked me with 2pairs.

I mean when i started playing in this game, i was so excited with all the fish on the table but they getting to me now… ive been running pretty bad but i feel so confused with all the action and sucking out. My main question is what my strategy should be in this table. Ive been playing real tight with a shorter stack (max buyin is $1000 and been starting with $300 since i thought it was better to start short and try to double up quick)

But i started thinking maybe its not as optimal as i thought. Should i be more aggressive with them maybe with max buyin? My friend thinks its best to play like a nit in this table and im questioning it now…

3 bet $100 pre. Your flop size is good. At this SPR and versus a player who is very aggressive, this is an automatic call - don't even think about it. Sometimes Q7 gets there.

Sounds like your maniac knows a little something. After hitting a pair and flush draw on the flop, it was a coin flip, with the maniac having a slight edge.

100% agree here, especially when we don't have the Ad, so nfd is quite possible for villain. Against a spaz-monkey like this, 3b more than 2.5x, perhaps even 4x, hope they catch a piece, and hold on.

You're gonna lost sometimes; it happens. In the long-run, though, the money is yours.

Re: 1/2/5 ACTION table with AA

This hand is pure variance. Villain can't make money in the long run calling that sort of raise with Q7s. He got a favorable flop and his flop shove was fine. He is likely to do that with far worse hands though and your call was correct also.

Buying in short vs buying in deep is more a matter of how much variance you can stand. With opponents like this your going to be all in a lot. You need to be ready to ride out these coin flips where it's easy to lose several in a row. Not just the hit to your bank roll but able to avoid any tilt. Don't get sucked into playing badly trying to catch up.

TAG is right at this sort of table in general, though nitty tight is leaving money on the table. You can mix some speculative play in from LP but watch if it's actually +EV or not. It's easy to get too speculative just because your opponents are bad.

Agree, but I might go even bigger pre to make him think you have AK or JJ

Edit: make him think you want a fold.

I just gave the Villain all the flush draws down to about 3 gappers, bottom and middle set, all two pairs and the open ended straight draw and you're a 2.5 : 1 favorite.

Even if you knew he had exactly the Q-7 of diamonds, you're getting $730:$470 or 1.55:1
and you're actually very close to 1:1. You just got unfortunate.

Just read rest of post. I play in a similar game. TAG is good, no need to be nitty. You just have to ride with the variance -- you want him to play Q7 every time. Buy in for $300 - $500, but leave when the amount you've won is more than you are willing to lose or it makes you uncomfortable to lose. If you don't want to hit and run, just fold for a while and then leave

I also gave villain good top pair queens without the flush draw. Doesn’t make that much difference if you take them out.
