My image is very tight because i have been card dead for more than one hour. Villain is very loose, i have seen him get it all in on the turn with nothing but a gutshot, has a very wide range.

Another donk who has been raising ATC raises to 10$ UTG+1, Villain calls, I have KK in HJ and raise to 40$. The table suddenly wakes up because i am finally in a hand and everyone comments that i have aces. Everyone else folds, Villain calls.

Flop 278 rainbow Villain checks, I bet 65$, Villain calls.

At this point i put him on some kind of straight draw.

Turn J

Now this card really sucks for me. But he checks. I've seen this guy play, he would not check a straight, he knows i have an overpair (it is pretty damn obvious). At this point i put him on some kind of gutshot with a pair, maybe 2 pairs but very unlikely since he would bet those as well.

So i bet 100$, he calls.

River 9

Now i don't think there could be a worse card than this for me. I don't think i can beat anything here anymore.

He shoves. I fold.

How would you have played this?

I don't mind how you played it. With people at the table commenting you have aces or an overpair in this spot I think villain might have called with JJ looking for set value, or a non ace non king flop.

He might have floated the flop with the JJ suspecting you "might have AK" and spiked a jack on the turn.

I think you folded due to the straight / two pair combos but I think in a lot of spots here villain would show up with a set of jacks. I suspected he might have pocket 10's but I can't see him calling the turn with a gutshot after the overcard hits.

Either way, you were beat and I don't think if you played it any differently you would have gotten villain off his hand. I think the river 9 was a blank and you were crushed on the turn.

Any laydown that saves you money is a good one, so good laydown

^^^donk aggros players always call with JJ on the 8 high board, but I would definitely not call it a 'float'.

Agree this is a fold. I don't mind the flop bet but I think the turn bet is too small. If you think that hand made his draw become top pair you need to bet more, you're giving him almost 4 to 1

played fine up to turn where your bet sizing is way off, especially given reads on villain. he has odds to call with all sorts of shyt. the pot is $220, villain has about $240 left. given reads on villain i probably just shove turn and be happy with it.

if villain has T9 then bless 'im. JJ is a possibility but if villain is capable of stacking off with a gutter then his range here is wider than godzilla's ass when he's plastered face down between two plate glass windows

as played it's all messed up. i think we're folding river

Shove turn.

As played, easy fold. Any villain who goes passive-passive-active on flop-turn-river at 1/2 has the goods 99% of the time.

Ez shove ott. Looks like you were trying to avoid losing a whole bunch of money without looking weak. Shove turn and embrace the variance.

yep

edit: the thing is, OP, you bet an amount which leaves you hating life if villain puts his money in, either here or on a scary river.

If I've added things up correctly, there's $220 in the pot on the turn and villain/us have $245 left behind and we's got an overpair. I guess too late for pot control, which only leaves us shoving the turn?
