1/2/10 - What adjustments should I be making at this wild home game? 1/2/10 - What adjustments should I be making at this wild home game?

Lately, I've been going to a crazy loose 1/2 home game with a mississippi straddle to $10, $15 or $20 every hand from somewhere. Max buy-in $500. Full ring.

Despite the straddle always being on, the game is usually fairly shallow with stacks usually ranging from $200-$1200, most of the time. Several legit maniacs are regs at the table playing a ton of hands, playing ultra-aggro and shoving regularly with TPNK or gutters and running it three times. Up to this point, I've nitted it up and rarely ever limp PF. If the straddle is at $10 and there are no limpers, I'm usually opening to $35/40 and getting ~5 callers. I've booked wins my first 5 times at this home game, but the ultra-nit-mode is getting tiresome (especially when card dead) and, these players play such weak hands, I think there has to be a more exploitative style I can adopt. Right?

My question is: how would you adjust to this game? Would you open up your let's GII range and ramp up the variance? How would you construct your EP ranges and LP ranges? Is nit-mode my only option in this zero-FE game until I build a deeper stack later in the night?

Sorry so many questions…

Thanks for any help.

Until they start folding to your value bets or stop barreling into you when you are calling why fix what isn't broke? Eventually you would think they will label you as always having the goods and then you can start playing a more fun game and mix in bluffs.to me this is the dream table if you're only objective was to print money. Much easier when all you have to do is play your cards

Yeah it sucks watching 200bb pots getting won with TPNK etc but end of the day tight is going to be how you win at this game.
While it can be boring and not exciting, you know what is? Walking out the door with 200+bb for doing pretty minimum work.
If you have the bank roll for the game and the swings then I can see sone merit to openinh your game a little but you will have to be able to take the hits and not tilt.

Play tight. Be social. Make friends with the host. Print money.

Also, if everyone else straddles, then make sure that you straddle. You don't need to limp in, but you do need to straddle.

i think the more interesting question here is what do you do when the regs in the game start complaining about how tight you are?

in casinos this matters way less. but in home games i feel like it matters more - anyone have experience with this?

In those games you want high card value. So, KT is more valuable than 89s. I say this because your SPR's are gonna be super low and you stand to get it in early after you've hit hit tp and are ahead but before you catch your straight or flush with 89.

I don't think I would change my playing style much. So the guys aren't complaining about you being tight, I would just be social, have a drink or two, have a cigar, etc. Make sure you are straddling along with the others, in fact, one thing you can do that is "loose" is defend your straddle once a night or so with something somewhat junky and be sure to show when you fold (reluctantly, of course) or bluff with it. They will remember that instead of all your preflop folds.

When people talk about me being tight I double down and joke about waiting for suited aces or if I folded the BTN in a limped pot and the flop is Like J88 I complain and say I should have called with my pocket Jacks.

They still call pre when I raise though.

This has definitely started to happen with a couple of the regs. Being social helps a bit to not give as nitty an impression. But, the other night I was card dead for what felt like forever...and I had to flash a couple of the 92o hands to the guy next to me that already folded and be like, "I'm folding this...I don't care what so-and-so says. This is definitely more his speed."

Defending my straddle light once a night or so and showing some B.S. hand if I take it down goes a long way. In this home game, there's usually a game of some type on the TV and getting a little side-action like $10 on the winner seems to help them get over the nit-ball play somewhat too.

Also....they've seen me give big action with second or third nuts. The other day, they saw me drop $500 with second boat and lose to a rivered top boat that had no business still being in the hand, but oh well...seeing me lose a big one here and there will hopefully help reduce the nit-hate.

Good feedback...I think I've had too many mid to lower SCs in my range and not enough weaker broadways that outkick the ultra-loose guys in this game that cliffhang Stallone-style with K7o. SPRs are really low and it's usually going in on the flop in this game.

Haven't read the rest of the posts but tight is going to be good in this game but you can go for more thin value. Hands like AT and KJ that can typically get you in trouble in a lot of games can get you a lot of value if these guys are as loose as you say. I'd play a lot of hands that can make the nuts or second nuts for cheap (if possible) like suited Aces or Kings, but cut out SCs and those type hands.

Also if there's a lot of raises pre, you can l/rr a lot to narrow the field.
