Played a 5-handed 0.25/0.50 NLHE game yesterday. Villain is sitting with about 220BB, hero ~120BB. Villain has become gradually more loose as the night goes on, but still taking down pots at showdown.

Hero is BTN, Villain is HJ. Villain opens to 3x (1.50), folded to Hero. Hero sees 7c7d and calls. SB, BB both fold.

Flop: 8h6c5s. (Pot: 3.75)

Villain bets $2.50, Hero raises to $6.50. Villain tanks for about a minute and calls.

Turn: 2c (pot 16.75)

Villain checks, hero bets $11.50. Villain quickly raises to $25.

What does Hero do in this spot?

Why are we raising flop?

As played check turn. As played guess we gotta call and hope to hit for this price

In the past I've slowplayed a lot of my draws by calling down/checking streets. As a result I don't think I get maximum value when playing open-enders/flush draws when they hit. As a result, I've been trying to play my draws faster by raising flop/turn and triple-barreling more often to fatten up the pot. Not sure if this logic is correct though.

I also don't think the flop hits the Villain's range very much and a flop raise could get him off a strong ace or two overs. The call on the flop makes me think he has a better pocket pair.

Preflop, threebetting is a bit better I think, call also reasonable.

The only reason to raise flop is as a semibluff, to make villain eventually fold an overpair (to a few barrels), so you need to decide whether that's a realistic goal before raising. Raise flop check turn is an inconsistent line imo, so I like the turn bet.

Very weird line from villain here. Folding is out of the question given the pot odds and reraising seems very speculative considering I have no idea what he has, so call seems pretty mandatory.

i think you're beat, 10s here preflop for villain IMHO

so I ended up folding in that spot (maybe a bit nitty?) but at the time I put Villain on an overpair. The river would've been the Ace of spades.

Let's say I did call the turn raise. Do we just jam on the river if Villain checks to us? Or if Villain leads out on the river what do we do?

You're just calling to hit your draw, so you fold if you don't make it. You only need 20.2% equity here to break even and versus something like AA you have 22.7%. Very occasionally it will also get checked down and you'll win, so call is very clear.
