HB is balking so I offered to buy half of his action. Weight loss + only 50% risk + get the babes when the lbs are gone + braggin' rights = HB, don't lemme down pal.

I'm kinda countin' on ya here. Let's show these pups what the AARP-eligible are made of.

I think I might be able to lose a couple of ounces. If I tried really hard. What I'm saying is: Don't bet on me to lose weight.

OTOH, I lost 127 lbs. once. My lawyer said the divorce was worth every cent.

bada-bing!

Good luck and much willpower to all.
I weight myself daily and see a 0.5-1.5 pound fluctuation over the week as you said.

I have been following this thread because I am on a diet using Nutrisystems - I am not recommending that approach - I weighed 225 in January and now I weigh 211 this morning as specified after I evacuate urine. BTW you should drink the same amount of water daily since that will affect your weight - 6 glasses each day.

If the goal is to lose 5 pounds you should lose 7-8 because of fluctuations over time.

I need to lose weight for health reasons - my cardiologist told me too in no uncertain terms.

Good luck guys ...

If you drink wine just skip it for 3 weeks and that will take care of a few pounds right there. More so for beer... if you need alcohol try vodka.

I want in on this. Unfortunately, I have been unemployed for 5 months and cannot afford much of a buy-in. Can I buy in for $25 or is that too low?

it's perfectly fine ~ that's why I ended up structuring it this way.

It's just weighted so it's fair for everyone.

To be clear, if this contest were a poker game, avoid would be the host calling everyone on his cell trying to make sure it goes, and I would be the fish he's building it around and using as bait to get other people to drive to the casino. If he says you're in, you're in. But beware that I might make unreasonable demands that we double the stakes or change to badugi later. JK.

Somebody PM me if Jesse switches to Badugi.

I'd join in, but I don't have a scale in order to avoid being results-oriented.

good stuff. I've always wondered which type of drink (spirits, wine, beer) offered the fewest calories per serving. Like is a shot of whiskey less than a bottle of beer? Beer has got to be the most, amirite?

Pretty sure vodka and a zero calorie mixer is your best bet.

They don't call it a beer belly for nothing.

Vodka has no carbs... I like single malt scotch myself.

Vodka and diet coke, but it takes like ass. I dated an anorexic once that drank them.

Also just wanted to tell everyone participating to "run good!"

Diet drinks actually cause you to gain weight, not sure why but I have heard that from many sources - sorry about that -

Vodka martini - shaken not stirred should do the trick.

Good points
-No saturated fat
-No cholesterol
-Very low in sodium
-No sugar
Bad points
-Contains alcohol

You may have a point. She was a calorie counter, so I'm certain that's all she paid attention to. And I only have the one point of reference. I'm pretty thin, as Jesse can attest. So I'll yield to the more experienced fat people ITT.

People who drink diet soda are fat on average but it's not causitive, just coorelated. Just like towns with higher ice cream cone sails have higher drowning rates.

Well a diet coke is not going to affect an anorexic very much - but people that eat a normal 2,000 kcal per day diet might have an issue - what it is, I think, is that the diet stuff that makes the drink sweet interferes with your body's system - I stopped drinking diet drinks about a year ago.

If you are in social situations and still want to have a drink, a better alternative appears to be clear alcohols such as vodka (just watch to avoid the sugary mixers… club soda is the best mixer as it doesn’t have loads of sugar like tonic water or sodas do, nor the nasty artificial sweeteners from diet sodas).

I believe that the way it interferes with your system has more to do with the long-term health effects like possibility of cancer and such.

Hrm... I just read up on maltodextrin. It seems that it has a larger number of calories than the same amount of sugar? Or is it carbs? Either way, you seem to be right.
