Seriously?

Not if you were one of the 5.

This is a hand from $8/$16 last night:

I come back from a break and post in the cutoff with 73ss. There's some action in front of me, including a raise, I call, the big blind 3-bets, and the original raiser caps it. I think 7 players saw the flop for a cap, including me.

Flop T98, all spades. I feel like the best line for my hand is to play defense on the flop and play offense on the turn and try to drive people out if a good card comes off. I'm also mentally preparing myself to lose this pot a big percentage of the time.

If you're trying to play good poker, calling with 42 suited anywhere but the blinds or on the button is setting yourself up for bad things to happen. Even on the button in a multiway pot it's a stretch.

Postflop you did everything you could do. They check to you all you can do is bet.

Everything was fine except preflop. That's really really bad.

I think it’s fine to be the 6th (or even maybe the 5th) limper with 42s.

I could be convinced that someone who plays postflop like a demigod could get away with playing 42s on the button but the rest of us should happily muck it.

Do you have a utility like Pokerstove that can show you hand vs. range equities?
