Bear with me, I don't remember the hand exactly, but I'll do my best.
prototypical SSHE table, UTG raises, 3 coldcallers, SB coldcalls, we are BB with J
T
and we call.
6 players, 6BB, flop J
T
7
SB checks. We would love to be able to checkraise on this flop, but we're in an awful relative position to do so. If we donk, maybe UTG will raise for us. On the other hand, maybe if we check, we'll get lucky, UTG checks behind and someone in late position bets so we can raise.
It's worth pointing out that there are a TON of turns that could cripple this hand, as strong as it is. Almost half the deck is cards we don't want to see. And since we're out of position we can't even promise ourselves a chance to raise the turn if the turn is a safe card.
I'm leaning toward a check. I hate to give up so much pot equity but our flop edge is not huge and donking won't protect our hand. Check, hope someone in late position bets, and if not, just call and bet a safe turn card.
