Loose 10/20 limit or 2/5 NL? Loose 10/20 limit or 2/5 NL?

I eek around $35 an hour at 2/5 NL at a casino 20 mins from my house.

45 mins from my house, plus a few tolls, another casino has a very juicy 10/20limit game.

It's full kill, every flop is multiway (4 players min), and the youngest guy at the table is probably 48 years old.

90% of hands go to showdown. Every draw calls you down, and middle pair will call you down.

What kind of hourly could a winning player expect in this type of game?

I'm debating re-learning limit poker for this game specifically. Provided this is a better game than the 2/5, can anyone recommend any books or software?

Thank you gentlemen.

In all likelihood, if you are very good at LHE, you will probably top out at $25-$30/hour in a $10/$20 game. I think elite players can make $30+ in a good game.

So no. Not worth the extra commute.

You're crushing your 2/5 so why switch to limit when the game is twice as far away? A limit crusher (talking about the best of the best) makes 1 BB/hr ($20 in this case). Good winning players make about 0.75 BB/hr. I'd stick to your NL game.

If you're intent on switching, read Ed Miller's Small Stakes Holdem. It's the Limit bible IMO.

The top end of this game could be a little bigger than your to five. It'll depend on the rake and the kill rules. Without a doubt it will be way more variance and you'll need a bigger bankroll. I'd also consider whether there are bigger games to move up to on either side. For example if there's no limit Hold'em bigger than this 1020 game near you but plenty of 5-10 No Limit or something similar I'd focus more on the no-limit.

But hey if You're motivated give it a shot.

I don't see anything wrong w/ OP dabbling in that 10/20 kill game if he likes limit hold 'em. If your main motivation is to win $, I'd keep the 2/5 NL as my main game, as $35/hour is far from "eeking", it's a pretty decent hourly. But it's possible to do very well at that 10/20 full kill game, especially if you're tight preflop, the kill is active a lot, and people don't adjust their strategy.

Variance in that 10/20 LHE game seems rather large even if profitable.

Would recommend just sticking to 2/5 NL with goal of moving up if possible to like 5/10 NL.

10/20 full kill game MIGHT be a,solid game to play once a week or once every 2 weeks sort of as a diversification of the income source from Poker.

With that said, ceiling from getting better at NL is almost unlimited whereas LHE best you can do is Commerce 100/200+ games which seems quite difficult to reach that level

The CE for 2/5 NL is going to be way better than the CE for the 10/20 HK LHE game even at the same winrate. And I think achieving 1.75 BB/hr is going to be really tough.

If you're in it for the money the main driver should probably be what's the next step up. If 2/5 NL is the top of the NL ladder but 10/20 LHE is a stepping stone to 100/200 LHE, your goal should be to crush the 100/200 LHE game as quickly as possible. If 10/20 LHE is the top of the LHE ladder but there's a 5/10 NL game as readily available, your goal should be to crush 5/10 NL as quickly as possible, and then put in as many hours as you can.

You guys have all made some great points. Based off everything I've read I'm going to continue at 2/5. Thanks for all the opinions!

I'd expect good players beat this game for 50+, with a kill this is closer to 15/30 than 10/20.. still extra commute and learning curve don't make this mandatory, maybe go check it out one time and see how you like it

Learning more forms of poker does help other games but more so when you make an investment to play at a certain standard

I would not expect anyone but the most elite players game selecting for the softest games to beat 15/30 for $50/hr.
