Villian is a guy I have seen around but I think this is the first time ive played with him. Seems to be a little bit too loose but not clueless. One of my first hands of the session, he called me down on a 10-9-9 flop with 8-6 (turn 6, river 7... I had kings). He checked called all the way, and then lead on the river.

2 limpers, villain limps in HJ, I limp with 79 on the button, SB calls... 6 to flop

FLOP: 10-10-7 rainbow with one diamond. Checks to me, I bet. Everyone folds except for Villian.

TURN: 5 V Checks, I bet, V raises, I call.

RIVER: Black 3, V bets, I call

I would just over limp as well. I'd raise if it was just two players in front of me.

It's not likely he is bluffing a diamond draw. You have a 9 to block straight draws. This pot started out 6 way and you have shown aggression on the flop and the turn. You can probably fold this river but I don't hate the call since he is unknown.

Thanks for the reply. I said to myself after the hand ended, "did I seriously just give this guy that many chips?". But seems like it was pretty standard up until the river though, where I guess I can justify that call since I had not played with him long. If the turn wasn't a diamond, I would have had any easy BF.

As far as preflop, I pretty much never raise suited connectors (or one gappers) 89s and under. Even if its just a couple limpers, I still often just call. Thinking I need to be raising these hands more, to improve my image if nothing less. General guideline for raising low suiters pre?

Hand seems fine to me. Preflop I can go either way and for me depends on how opponents play post flop. On the river pot is reasonably large so I don't like folding for one bet but I don't expect to win very often. I can find a fold on the river if you have more history with the player and they're a typical small stakes player.

I'd raise pre. But it's not really important.

Anyone not advocating for a river fold either plays vastly different small stakes LHE from what I've historically played or is wrong. You're getting shown a ten or better here > 90% of the time.

Edit: No one has advocated call yet. That's good.

If we are shown a ten or better 90+% of the time at showdown, we can fold to villain's river bet, because after the rake we are getting less than 9:1.
