You meet someone at an activity that you enjoy, you talk to them about it, find out they view it similarly, and the rest is obviously history. There is no awesome story about one of us posting a hand and the other declaring that he was actually the villain or something.
This is Jesse's well, but my memory is a lot better than his so I'm going to threadjack. The very first time I met him, he sat down at a GC 20/40 table and I saw that his name was Jesse on the board and I had read a bunch of his MSLHE posts.

"Is your name Jesse?"
(I'm pretty sure about half of 2+2ers that meet him start with this question. 'Cause right now there are probably only 2 people named Jesse playing 20/40 in the world, and only one of them is a guy.)

"Yes". 3 min. later, "What's your name?"

"Mine's XXXX". 3 min. later, "Is your favorite number 8888?"

(Strange look of understanding on his face) "Yeah."

3 min. later. "My name's Captain XXXX. I've been sent to own your soul and take all of your money."

Spoiler:
OK, that last sentence is made up.

Captain is probably right. Probably. It's clear who made a bigger impression, though.

I met Bakku CDC and Prof Ben at GC in much the same fashion.

Describe the 20/40 games at HG and Commerce in general and in terms of one or the other suiting your style better.

I have had at least 2 people tell me that the 20 games at the Commerce are not as good as the 40 or 60 games. Based on your experience and/or what you have heard from trusted sources, is this actually true? Seems very odd if so.

I'm going to shamelessly steal Wookie's questions:
Quote:
If you could ban a poster with 1000 posts or more, who would you ban, and why?

If you were to be given a custom title of your choice, what would you want it to be, and why?

What Small or Mid Stakes strat thread helped you more than any other? What about another fourm's strat thread?

Mat Sklansky gets drunk and makes the mod forum visible to all users one night. Other than your own name, what's the first thing you search for?

Describe your perfect forum home game. Who's there? What do we play? Stakes? How drunk are we (i.e., srs biz strategy or drunkern misbehavior), and how did we get that way?

If you would be banned from 2+2 unless you made at least 25 content-ful posts per week in either NVG or Politics, which do you take, or do you accept the ban?

A few more questions:

Are you a reader?

Roughly how many books do you own?

What's the best thing you've read recently? What's your top 3 of all time?
Spoiler:
did you pick that title to impress us, or was it really the best thing you read

Any reading guilty pleasures?

What do you think of e-books, and what reader(s) do you own?

Ever thought about writing a novel or non-fiction book of your own?

How has the blog stacked up against what you expected? Is it a fun thing to do or a chore that is on your list?

I believe the HG games are looser on average, but the commerce games are more passive. I used to think looser was more important, but am now of the belief that passive could be. I think the Commerce 20 is easier to play, which is important if you're talking 35+ hour weeks.

This cannot possibly be true. The fallacy here is probably that the pots are bigger (more bets) in the bigger games because they are more aggro)

Hi Jesse,

I have enjoyed reading your blog for awhile now. My questions to you...

Have you ever played the 20-40 limit at the Taj in Atlantic City?
What are your thoughts on the play and the differents from east and west coast play?

Thank you for taking time out.

How much money would it take for you to move to Vegas and become a performer in the Legends In Concert show, playing your American Idol doppelganger.

More or less money to impersonate a singer of your choosing ? And who is it ?

1. *How long is the ban? *If it's temporary, Private Joker and just for kicks. Permanent? *Nobody has ever offended me badly enough that I'd want to.*

2. *The current contenders are "SSLHE People's Champion", "There is No Playbook" and "I know Leo Doc"

3. *Picking out a single thread would be impossible, but in general I will take this opportunity to salute the works of James, our off again on again mod here.*

4. *I honestly just don't have any interest in this one.

5. *I believe Leo Doc already answered this one... But more seriously, small stakes limit mix game with emphasis on draw games and omaha, little to no stud. We are drinking libations served by the pair of cocktail waitresses Leo has provided for the occasion (since we are at his house). It's a multi-table affair with at least a dozen people there, who I'm not going to name because I don't want to offend anybody. Plus it's leo's house, there's lots of room.*

6. *Ban

Only played serious business at Foxwoods once and they struck me as a bunch of nits. I've never been to AC.

I'm not much of a reader, but I have from time to time gotten myself engrossed in books, and occasionally cannot put them down. I'd say I own less than 100 books and at least half of them are text books. I have never read an EBook and do not have any sort of reader, but am considering getting a tablet at some point.

The best thing I've read recently? That's tough...the last two books I've read were Mario Puzo's "The Family" which wasn't very good, and Stephen King's "Fire Starter" which I thought was quite good. So let's go with Fire Starter.

My favorite reads of all time? That's tough. When I was a kid I absolutely loved "Maniac McGee" and it's still the only book I've read twice. I absolutely loved "The Stand" by Stephen King and could not put it down, as well as "Shogun" and "King Rat". And curiously I loved "Rainbow Six" but have tried some other Clancy page turners and thought they pretty much all stunk. And obviously I did not choose these books to impress anyone.

I have given serious consideration to the fact that I could potentially write a book. Many people have suggested that I should give it a try, and it is lurking in the back of my mind. I still really enjoy the blog, and it's worked out about like I expected. Occasionally it is a slight chore, but in general the stuff I write that is actually good is most definitely a labor of love. For the record the blog has grossed THREE FIGURES of income thus far.

If I'm impersonating anyone it's Taylor Hicks. And is the money guaranteed up front? Because if so the answer is "not very much at all" because there is simply no way I would get past the first show.

Most enjoyable poker session ever? Could be a home game, whatever.

How come you don't like Stud forms of poker?

What countries have you been to? Do you enjoy traveling?

What hobby, sport or activity have you always wanted to get try or get good at, but never had the time/money/ability to do so?

Since you've spent hundreds of hours in various cardrooms and at one point or another could call various casinos your "home casino", do you get a strange sense of nostalgia or deja vu when you walk into one that you haven't been in in a while? Or do you just look around and say to yourself, "same old degens and douchebags" and want to leave?

Excellent choice!!! I read IT when I was like 13 or so when it first came out. I absolutely love it as well and I had to sneak it into my room because my mom didn't want me reading it..lol

Ever read any Michael Palmer stuff?

Rate the accuracy of the following statement:

When you walk into a cardroom, you are going to be in the top 1% of the smartest people in the room. Since poker is almost completely a game of intelligence (whatever that means), a primary component of your general frustration is that, by definition, you should be able to produce results vs. a bunch of 40/80 players who are not as smart as you.

Kind of a corollary: do you believe there exists something called "poker talent"? I've heard you use the term before, what do you mean by this? Is it definable?

What would you consider your natural strengths and weaknesses as a poker player?

Easiest (in terms of skill required, time cost, and life-hate endured) way for a player (you) to:
earn 50k/yr from poker?
100k/yr?
200k/yr?
*assume you have an adequate bankroll

Which area(s) do you most want to be more skilled at if you could? You can pick either a game (lhe) or a level of handedness (6max/hu/full ring) or tourneys or online vs live...

among the following list of games rank them in order from 'ideally this would be the game im best at' to 'skill at this game is least important to me'.
