Forget the blinds and preflop action for a moment. Just imagine that you've been dropped into the hand right as the flop is being dealt in a 7-handed pot.
Now think about a hand like 86o. How different is it playing this hand from SB compared to playing from BB? You're out of position against a big field with a weak offsuit hand. The types of decisions you're going to make from SB are not that different from BB. Sure, you inherently gain *some* value by being in position against one player as opposed to none, but it's likely that this gain is minimal. So if you want to think about how hands play from SB when you limp, thinking about them as BB hands where you check is a pretty good comparison.
