I think the most important thing to do is to pay attention to the type of game you're in. Some games a maniacal strategy will print, other games a super nit strategy will be best.
What is a "super nit strategy"?

I think the Sklansky, Malmuth, Miller book is a fantastic first book... especially for live LHE. They sprinkle in some extremely advanced concepts that even some mid-tier mid-high pros don't understand. Its weakness is that it teaches you nothing about shorthanded play. In fact, you will get outright murdered shorthanded if you only go by this book.

I still think the Stox book is great even if it wasn't written by the most ethical person. I would make that your second book. You will be competent shorthanded, but you will not be able to hang with stronger mid-high pros.

From there, I would move on to the Deuces Cracked video series called "Relentless Assault" by Deathdonkey. It was made 12 years ago, but the top LHE players in 2008 would still be very strong nowadays. This video series will teach you how to take care of yourself shorthanded and introduce you to some extremely advanced concepts.

Next, I would watch "My Danish Luckbox" by Oink on DC for the first time. This is extremely advanced LAGTAG and outright LAG play. In my opinion, even Oink himself really had no idea how fantastic this series is. Any time I am feeling off my game in LHE, I watch this series again.

Finally, I would watch "Five's a Crowd" by Deathdonkey and MikeL on DC. This will fully school you on shorthanded play. At the time, Deathdonkey was an online crusher and MikeL was a live crusher. The two unique perspectives really meld well together in this series. I usually hate it when coaches spend enormous amounts of time on spots, but they make the most of it in this series and keep me entertained.

Solver work and studying bots is not really necessary unless you want to play in the highest games live or want to torture yourself playing in tough online games. The "cool kids" will tell you otherwise, but this old dork says you will be fine!

Scratch what I said about watching Deuces Cracked vids. I was unaware that the site is no longer around. That really sucks... some of the best LHE content ever into the abyss

+1.

I greatly enjoyed DeathDonkey videos along with Ninawilliams videos. DeucesCracked was life changing for me and wish I watched more of / remembered Oink videos.

I still have all the series you mention on my hard drive. It pays to be a packrat.

I can't find anyone to tell me why they think the Small Stakes Hold em book is specifically for Limit Hold Em when it doesn't say that on the cover or anywhere else. Most books put 'Limit' or 'No Limit' in the title of their 'small stakes' books. I made a post asking this a few years back, long since deleted, and all anyone would say is "That's a limit hold 'em book." But how do you know? And why didn't the authors say so like other books do, so that people like me don't have to wonder?

The book was published in 2004, when well over 90% of Holdem games at US casinos were fixed limit.

Read the book and notice that bet and raise sizing is never discussed. That alone should be a clue.

Stox & Zobags' Winning in Tough Holdem Games has exactly the same problem.

Ed Miller's original 2+2 screen name when he was just another beginning poker player.

For that matter so does Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players. Maybe it's a Two Plus Two thing?

I wonder what % of the book sales are from people who meant to buy a NL book and were too lazy to return it once they realized their mistake.

I received an email inviting me back to Deuces Cracked relaunch. It looks sketchy to me. Anybody know if this is legit?

There is no place at Taco Bell that says what you are ordering is food.

The site seems to be back up. I obviously singlehandedly saved the site with my post

Obviously. They don't want the FTC to come down on them like a ton of bricks for false advertising.

Best thing about DC was being able to download all those mixed games videos. I just recently shared the triple draw videos with players new to the game. Triple the Gold and Mentor with Death Donkey are great series.

Thank you very much.

Playing Omaha Limit High + LHE mix game tonight 1st time playing live since Feb in 2020

Going to try to do a lil review of Omaha High online. Hopefully playing NIT TAG style will compensate my lack of knowledge

maka2184, where did you find a Omaha high/LHE mixed game online? I play that game live and have been looking to find that game online with all the poker rooms here in the Midwest closed.

I've yet to play a single hand of online in 4 years.

Would recommending PM BigBadBabar.

Heard from 2+2 pro in USA private games also has ton of mix games option but sounded invite only the private game one I was informed in May, 2020.
