Live $4/8, but this time the kill is on, so it's $8/16

Killer is a pretty decent player by $4/8 standards. He is also BB for this hand.

He posts the $8 kill. I am UTG + 2 with AJ diamonds, and raise to $16.

Everyone folds to killer, who calls.

Flop Ts Jh Tc

Killer checks, I bet $8. He raises to $16. I call.

Turn 4s. He bets $16, I call.

River 2h. He bets $16, I call.

It looks pretty standard to me. You could have 3 bet preflop and fold if he 4 bets or leads out on the turn and checked behind if he just calls your reraise and you still think he has a 10. Either way, I don't think you want to put a lot more or a lot less money into this hand than you did.

Assuming you plan to bet any street if checked to, this is good.

Thanks, guys. I just didn't like the way he check-raised me immediately on the flop. Very confidently, and then just kept talking and betting on the turn and river. I was pretty sure he had a ten. Obviously if this was online I would not fold, but wondering if live reads make folding this okay. I'd watched him play for the past 5 hours and the way he was acting and betting I really thought I was screwed.

What was he talking about?

I've made this read live before and folded the flop in a similar situation, but it's not worth discussing because it's so specific to the game and opponent and in a vacuum it's a terrible playe and everyone will justifiably say as much.

Also, confirmation bias is a real problem because sometimes if you fold here they show you a ten and you're like, yep, of course, I knew it, pat-myself on the back. But I've made some truly atrocious folds that nobody else in the forum would ever make because of supposedly solid 100% reads that turned out to be wrong.

I would put in a raise on the flop or turn on the assumption that most people with tens will not check raise the flop.

You call? Okay." Then he said the same thing on the river. Just super relaxed and chatty. It wasn't really "a speech," but I've learned that whenever a person gets really chatty and "speech-y" at the poker table, they almost always have a great hand.

True. I also admit the fact I was getting pounded all day didn't help, nor the fact that it was a kill pot so everything cost twice as much. Those kill pots are great when you win, but when you lose and have to go to the river, they just vacuum up your chips. I don't think they're good for card rooms as they make people go broke faster. But oddly enough, players seem to love them.

Raise the river.

He could also feel confident with a Jack since you didn't reraise the flop or raise the turn. He probably put you on AK.

You played it fine. I wouldn't put in any more action given your read, but I wouldn't fold either.

I would reraise flop. Bet turn see what he does. He will then have to put u on over pair or ten. On flop he could be open ended or something that will just call turn.
