A9o SB vs BB and a flop raise A9o SB vs BB and a flop raise

Winning Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (3 handed) - Converted at http://handhistoryconverter.com

BB ($19.09)
Button ($0.66)
Hero (SB) ($32.25)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A, 9
1 fold, Hero raises $0.75, BB calls $0.50

Flop: ($2) A, 8, K (2 players)
Hero bets $0.50, BB raises $1, Hero raises $1...

One of my first hands at the table against a player I did not recognize (and had no history for). Is this too aggressive? Just right? Plan would be to continue leading each street UI and showdown 100% of turn/river combos.

Been feeling really good about my play in general lately, except in some blind-vs-blind spots like this one. Thanks in advance for any responses!

Weird hand converter, I'm guessing it treats everything like NL (and you raised pre, and are now bet/3 betting this flop?)

This looks good; I expect a lot of guys to 3 bet their good hands from the BB so you're only really losing to K8 against a lot of standard OL players. I don't want to call and check raise either because we could get free carded, or even get worse value hands to fold. NH thus far.

Oh weird, I didn't even notice that. Might have something to do with why HEM thinks all my LHE tables are NLHE, dunno if it's a problem on my end or the site's.

Yeah, I opened in the SB, he called. Bet the flop, he raised, I 3-bet.

Thanks.

jdr said it. NH so far (although I don’t raise pre sb v bb).

Can you expand a little more on this please? I'm intrigued. I like raising as a default but there are some Villains that auto-3, and playing that out of position is a pain in the ass.

Thanks!

Folding is free dude, thus I disagree that it’s a pain in the ass to play A9o out of position in a 3 bet pot.

I’d raise preflop vs everyone no matter what, but I’m a firm believer that early street play is really only winning or losing small fractions of the pot, whereas later street play is winning or losing big fractions of the pot.

That’s why I think it’s best to strive for optimal play preflop, exploiting exclusively on the margin, but on late streets we can really go for lots of exploitive value.

I like preflop and the flop as played. If bb just called the flop then I’m bet calling the turn. If bb 4bet the flop then I’d call down read less.

I used to use that strat, but abandoned it. I prefer coming in with a legitimate range edge OOP, and some times the BB does something silly like fold a hand getting 3:1 IP and you get to win the $ uncontested.
