Hi All,

10c/20c 6M : Utg raises, ep 3bets, c/off folds, button calls, small blind folds and it is three bets to me in the big blind. I hold pocket tens. The game is not ramming jamming nor is it tight. Just average. First raiser is aggressive reg. Second raiser is unknown. I decide that I can't set mine as I don't have the odds so I will play it for best and then decide I can do a little of both so I call.

How deluded was I? What chance is there of TT being best in this spot?

I have played very llittle six max.

Thanks in advance,

Al Mirpuri

Pretty good. I would cap it unless I felt the UTG would cap it.

I would def cap TT here. But calling is okay too. Your hand is close in value to the 3-bettor's range if he is tightish, but far ahead of the open raiser's range. Also, the 3-bettor might be a spaz since he is unknown.

Fwiw, you can play any pocket pair in this spot. It seems like you don't have odds to set mine, but it is still a 3-handed 6-max hand. This means that you can win a decent number of pots unimproved even with just 22. I play all sorts of stuff here like small suited aces and suited connectors.

There’s merit to both plays. I would probably mix it up here, but mostly lean towards 4betting. Calling does have some value in the sense that you can see what the utg opener will do.

UTG capped but I will do as you have written the next time this spot comes up.

It is good to know just how wide I can call here.

You have both done me a great service. Thank you.

4betting also gives UTG the chance to fold which has to be good as I only have TT.

UTG capped but being LAG I am not sure his 4bet says much but against other opponents giving them a chance to call or cap would let me know something.

Thanks for your input.

With the read that he’s a lag I would definitely 4bet. Gives you multiple options on the flop (bet to get raised or x/r or x/f) and also the 3bettor should have a wider range than usual.
