Do the math. The math doesn’t check out. Besides, if you can beat 4/8 you can beat 8/16. It just makes so much more sense to pay the same price for twice the stakes. 20/40 even better. However the math makes these games simply tougher to beat with rake. Thousands of dollars leaves the player’s game a day. Goes directly to the casino.

Most of the rake is paid by losing players, but it makes their losses bigger and their wins smaller. I’m sorry, but the rake at 4/8 is a crime and I refuse to be fleeced.

Maybe when you have 2 ways to win a piece of a pot (esp when 4-5 people are seeing the river), 5+2 is beatable. But I think most 4/8 split pot games w typical b+m rake could be tough to beat long term.

I think 4/8 is a nice spot for many poker enthusiasts; and some of them prioritize the fun, social aspects of live poker - coupled with the chance to win money - ahead of the effect of the rake on their profitability

LMAO..think this is 3rd time Ive had this convo here. First off, I have no doubt I could beat any 8/16 game..IF! im not on a downswing! I buy in for $200 at 4/8...have no problem losing that in a night to idiots playing garbage and getting lucky...however, I'm not so cavalier about losing $400.00 in a night. At 20/40 what are you buying in for? whatever it is Im sure its more than $400. If you could promise me that...and I dont need to get lucky...just promise me Im not going to be unlucky..and no problem!!! Show me to the 20/40 table! But thats a promise you can't make. As for the thousands of dollars going off table...twice as much is being infused into game constantly!!!! And ur right, most of rake is paid by losing players...Im not one, lmao, so that doesn't concern me. And what math are you talking about? The amout of rake leaving table every hour?????? $7 rake, per hand, 30 hands per hour..so $210 is leaving every hour...SO WHAT! waaaay more than that is getting infused into the game....infact I can get a 4/8 game 24/7 at the Gardens....gonna say it again..if you cant beat a 4/8 game dont blame the rake or the math or whatever...LOOK IN THE MIRROR and blame that guy! LMAO.

(Esp when 4-5 people are seeing the river), 5+2 is beatable. EXACTLY, but I contend that they dont even need to be willing to go to river. IMO 90% of time if you're playing a hand you should be raising, also there should be at least 4 people in hand with you. If you're table is full of nits and regs who know how to play somewhat...sitout! or table change...although no game stays nitty forever...a lose player will sit down and drive action or game will break. But its not hard to find a 4/8 game where you have at least two people raising QQ+, AK. and limping in with almost everything else. and most pots are 6 way at least! in a game like that the rake is meaningless..

I'm sorry but you can't tell me that at a table where you have 3 or 4 people playing so badly that they might as well be playing with their cards face up and they're limping in 90% of time or more and most pots regularly going off PreFlop for $48-$72. that a $7 rake is soul crushing LMAO...bullshit!

And still nothing but fluff...come on Doug sure you can do better than that? If you agree..then great..if you disagree..then speak on it...honestly can't tell what the hell you are talking about...spot the logical fallacy and begging the question... why don't you STATE the logically fallacy instead of declaring that there is one? We mere mortals, or at least this one, would love to be enlightened.

Great to see you, as well. Hope everyone is doing well in your neck of the woods. Was just talking to a friend about Wil Wheaton's performance in that movie -- he was amazing.

We just binged off Picard, which brought it up.

yeah then next thing you know you're remembering collecting soup labels.

all good and healthy here. my jumper isn't in good form at the moment, but there's plenty of warm weather ahead.

Not one blizzard this winter, which is pretty lame imo.

Been down this road b4...now if I called this idiot an idiot..I'd get banned. I made a statement I stand by..and none of you clowns have rebutted...the classic..$210 is leaving table every hour is nonsense! when you take into consideration the skill level...the size of an avg pot..AND! the fact that that money is constantly being REPLACED! Yea Doug..might be best for you to keep your mouth shut...whats that saying...better to be thought a fool then to open your mouth and prove it!
03-31-2020 , 01:58 PM

Who’d have thought that one outcome of the stay-at-home order would be that BOTH LHE low content threads devolve into dick measuring contests?? I guess if you had been that insightful you would’ve sold all of your bank and hotel stocks and bought Zoom...

Stay healthy everyone!

Ya, doing the teleworking thing as best I can, set up a Slack workspace and all that good stuff. Murray the big black cat is very happy, there's a lap to sit in almost all day. Playing a bit of online poker too, the Boulder mixed game has moved to a private game on Kings, and there's some tournaments on Pstars as well. I'm not that enthusiastic about playing every day since now I stare at the monitor for 8 hrs/day, every day, a few additional hrs a day is kinda tedious. My road bike is on a trainer in front of the TV while I watch classic Premier League games, and I go out for a run every other day, only time I leave the yard.

Are you on a trainer as well Doug? I think you work from home all the time anyways. Your kid probably started remote learning this week too, how's that going?

TylerCracker must've been before my time, what's his claim to fame?

That's how I missed the first poker boom. Work all day on a computer and then poker on a screen? No thanks!

Coal Creek has been reasonable, so gravel bike outside for my riding.

90% of my work was already from home. I have been triple booked since Thanksgiving, but that mostly wrapped up yesterday. Looking for the next gig. We'll see if anyone does EE work for a bit.

Kid didn't like distance learning to begin with. However, she's coming around. Think she mostly objected to the fact that all of the assignments were review, and she snap rejected the idea. Now, she's enjoying being able to do things at her own pace. Fingers crossed.

There was a famous post about a chess teacher, a math teacher, and an astrophysicist in Vegas - TylerCracker, ArronW, and Bellatrix. They were staples of the forum in the 2002's. Bellatrix went on to be a DC coach and do a 99 part video series about MoP. Maybe it was only 30-some parts.
