No comments on protests or Vegas reopening? You’d think LHE is dead or something.

WARNING: This post might not be safe for work.

I know I'm not the only perverted old fart on this board, so has anyone else played around with Strip Poker videogames?

I first discovered one from Torquemada games back around 2011/2012. The game was five card draw and I felt like I couldn't beat the girls without the cheat codes. The girls in the first version of the game were, to put it politely, "not supermodels".

Fast forward to today, and now that I've had 8 years of poker education under my belt, even though NONE of that was five card draw, I'm EMBARRASSED that I ever needed the cheat codes.

Each player starts with $400 plus 4 items of clothing worth $400 each. Each bet or raise can be $5, $10, $15, $20 or $25. Unlimited raises are allowed both before and after the draw. The computer's AI will occasionally put a lot of money in the pot on a bluff, and for the most part the maximum they'll put in with a made hand depends on the strength of a hand (though there are exceptions), i.e. usually will never stop raising with a full house, 8 raises with a straight, 6 with 3 of a kind et al. What's really funny is the computer will occasionally fold to a $25 bet when there's already $200+ in the pot.

I've noticed that in 5 card draw it's pretty hard to make a pair, so if I have a pair less than queens I typically just use it as a bluffcatcher. When I have a pair of queens or better I will put a LOT of money in the pot because the computer will sometimes reraise several times with a lesser pair. It's really REALLY hard to have better than a pair of queens, so when the computer DOES, I just chalk it up to bad luck and move on to the next hand.

So far, I've seen no evidence whatsoever that the AI adjusts its strategy to its observations about the player at all.

The 2020 version of their software has much higher video quality and significantly hotter girls.

I have to admit, girls notwithstanding I actually have fun playing the so-easily-exploitable 5-card-draw game.

If anyone would like to know more I'll be happy to share.

Two weeks of no LC posts. Unacceptable.

Here's my no content post:

Anyone remember the movie Cassandra Crossing from 1976 starring Sophia Loren, Burt Lancaster, Martin Sheen, Ava Gardner and O.J.Simpson? If not, I recommend it to anyone who has Amazon Prime and can therefore watch it for free. The scenery of the Swiss Alps is magnificent.

Anyway, the movie's about a runaway train with a bubonic plague carrier on board.

If that movie were filmed today, it would be about 7 minutes long, because everybody on the train would have a cellphone and the whole situation could have been resolved almost instantly.

Serious no LC post/question.

Has anyone crushed it via Draft Kings bets and/or trading DKNG?

Even as passive investing, ton of opportunities last month just going Long securities.

PS: Best friend was up 150% YTD via free info of large 10mil+ trades made by politicians. Friend is Analytics & scripting master & had former Investment Banking friend do analysis on data. That maybe outlier but data is free to access for all if anyone willing to do due diligence

Low (not no) content question:

I have been fooling around with low-stakes LHE on Ignition, and doing remarkably well, and am considering starting to put some volume in. The level of play I am facing seems bad enough for this not to matter, but I want to ask anyway:

Where does one go to learn the current state of GTO for LHE nowadays? Where does one find starting-hand charts. The most current I have is from Winning in Tough Hold'em Games, which is pretty fricking dated.

Is there solver output available for inspection? My own single stab at it has run into the difficulty that LHE game trees are elaborate enough that solutions call for much more memory than I have in this POS laptop has to offer, even after I have upgraded the memory.

Back in the day I had it beat into my head by the likes of MitchL that in heads-up pots preflop, the opener should never four-bet an in-position three-bettor, nor should the big blind ever three-bet an in-position opener, because by not reraising we keep our calling range uncapped, and that additional the small bet we give up is easily recovered on the flop with a checkraise. Is this still a thing, or have the good players moved beyond this?

I sure hope the answer is no change!

The players in your game aren't thinking about any of this. Just play solid and win.

btw, what stakes are available?

There are lots of players who have no idea what "capped range" means but are capable of thinking along the lines of, "they just called my reraise, so they have nothing, maybe ace-king at best."

Which is the better exploit for someone who three-bets way too wide, to four-bet them and take down the pot on the flop, or to flat them and check-raise the flop, with a good possiblity of winning an additional extra bet?

I expect you and I have different ideas of what "just play solid" means.

On Ignition, .05-.10, .25-.50, 1-2, 3-6, 15-30, and 30-60.

Vs overaggressive 3bettors I have a 4 betting range. Vs middle of the road 3 bettors I don’t 4 bet heads up. Vs tight 3 bettors I 4 bet AA and sometimes KK depending on probability of a raising war.

“They dont call you enough here because you don’t bet here “ callipygian on 66 unimproved on the river.

I am the second coming of Ben hogan. Only took me 40 years to realize it. I have lots of practicing to do.

We talking bout practice.

Took a hike to an old hang out spot today Pics incoming.

I don't have 'rules.' I'd sometimes re-raise and sometimes not (when it comes to your specific example), I like to mix it up a lot.

I will have to look at Ignition since those are decent stakes to play and I'm losing my mind w/ nothing to do.

@Bob148 Those pics remind me very much of where I went to summer camp a long time ago in Maine.

Ok then if we cross reference the exact summers, and the number of summer camps in Maine, we find the probability that we have met lmao.

China lake ring a bell?

I went to a quaker village camp 3 years in a row. For those confused about the Puritan/Quaker/Amish differences, I’ll just say that the quakers were quite laid back in an almost western Taoism it’s your thing do what you wanna do way. It was quite liberating at 14, 15, 16 years old.

Every evening we did what they call “vespers “. Basically you go watch the sunset over the lake, or gather in the common room and just chill for 20 minutes without speaking. Was a good experience all around.

Camp Beech Cliff, on Mount Desert Island, for three summers more than fifty years ago.

A different time indeed. Welcome to the future.

To AlanBostick: I'm sure you've heard of this book, but I thought I'd mention "the intelligent poker player" by Phillip Newall. I personally didn't like it - it was way too mathematical and theoretical for me. But for someone who's serious about the math and GTO and counting combos, it's probably an educational book.

I'm sure you've heard the breakdown of what to do with certain percentages of your range, like always jam your biggest hands making sure we jam with just enough bad/speculative hands to balance our range, same with calling and folding. He discusses that concept too, and probably does it much better than I do.

I've been watching KevinEPoker's Twitch stream on the Ignition 3/6 tables. I haven't played in a long time, but the competition looked terrible to me.

Of course I've read Phil Newall's books. They are a manner of pre-solver thinking, because as I recall they were largely derived by looking at lots of hand histories that Cepheus played against some high-end LHE pros.

Solvers ought to have changed anything, at least for the people who can afford to rent cloud server time on AWS to work through gigantic LHE game trees.

If you want Solver analysis for LHE think best options are:

PM DonJuan and request coaching (Optimsl most +EV in my biased opinion).

Research Training Sites that offer Solver videos / coaching (Option 2).

Maybe I'm wrong but Solvers seem VERY useful if willing to dedicate investment in strong PC / server, etc.

PS: Giant poser since utilizing profitable markets, work grind, etc instead for me vs Solver

Going hiking with wife and visiting family for July 4th weekend in Illinois which I'm hoping will be as half as great as your amazing pics
07-03-2020 , 10:42 AM
You’re welcome, but only because the eastern time stamp (1:47) is my favorite combination of three numbers.

My sister moved back to the East coast and I intend to take her up on the partial (probably 15 to 25 miles seems good fun Total distance) Appalachian trail challenge. Just need new tent. My current tent is fair weather only.

Coincidentally, I’ve always wanted to go to owl head in New Hampshire. If you find it on a topographical map, you will see that it’s a minor peak among a ring of giants such as Lincoln Lafayette and the mighty Washington. To get to owl head one must climb high, then down the other side of one of the giants, and then you are basically deep in the white mountain national forest. Then you are officially in the middle of ****ing nowhere. The highways are all on the other side of the ring of peaks surrounding you.

for the cartographically inclined:

owl head, just south of the twin mountains.

franconia notch just to the west is closest civilization to owl head.

Hiking yesterday with wife was fun. Wore mask based on enough people around but tough in 90 degree weather outside shades

OT:
Drank too much beer + wine during July 4th weekend. However, wife's older sister & brother in law grilled duck and rabbit washed in whiskey (to reduce smell), marinated Vietnamese style which was Devine with Vietnamese ginger sauce with hot pepper
