Good luck either way.
My experience with mid-stakes limit holdem is that many of the tough regs go to Las Vegas for the WSOP. Many of the fishy recreational regs go to Las Vegas too. The games at home go on, but not as vigorously. Those games are beatable, but they are also brittle, easily broken.
Whereas during the WSOP is perhaps the very best time to be playing cash games in Las Vegas, because there are so many poker players in town, and many of them are nowhere near as good as they think they are.
I imagine that there is some sort of Nash equilibrium between going to Las Vegas and staying home for both the pros and the recreational players. But GTO is overrated in live poker, and the exploitative play is to go to Las Vegas.
