Daniel Negraneau's "How to play Limit Hold'em" video: For tigher/higher limit games only? Daniel Negraneau's "How to play Limit Hold'em" video: For tigher/higher limit games only?

I'm trying to get back into LHE recently and saw this video by DNegs where he explains how to play LHE. He recommends playing very aggressively with lots of thin value betting. This is different than what is recommended in books I have been reading like "Winning Low Limit Holdem" or "Small Stakes Holdem."

I assume this is because those books are geared towards low limit, loose passive games whereas Dnegs' advice is towards the higher limit games where the players are more TAGgy?

His recommendations don’t seem so bad. The only one I don’t like is the one about small pairs. I think small pairs can be tossed against most players facing a raise outside the blinds because they lack playability.

Actually pretty much in line with what I remember about SSHEFAP.

WLLHE was written for absolute beginners, trying to get them to maybe break even in really soft games in the 90's(?). Games are tougher now, rake is probably 2x as much, and you'd be in an amazing game where you could come close to winning playing that loose/passively.

Agree with checkraisdraw that DNegs probably overvalued small PP hands in this video. Maybe in a tournament where you have tons of chip equity spots to get people to fold? Also, he's doing a 13 minute video to explain one mix game to likely NL players, so a bit of strange advice might be expected.

That would be correctly played limit hold'em. The fact that you boiled down his video to this explanation says he did a good job.

Pretty simple game.

Raise anything you would call in NL. Call anything you would fold. Go all-in with anything you would raise.

Hi checkraisedraw:

Against a player whose open raising range is 30 percent or more, and this usually means someone in a steal position, it's probably correct to three-bet with a small pair providing no one else is in.

I don't like his example of three betting an UTG player with a pair of sixes.

Best wishes,
