It's interesting, though. There were (are?) towns that tried to fight off Walmart and I was sympathetic. Now I root for Walmart v. Amazon.

Amazon is doing way more for the little guy than Walmart. How many people you know have a Walmart seller business, or a Walmart e-book publishing business, or a Walmart affiliate business?

Property tax (sales tax in some jurisdictions?) and jobs, though. I know, it's not all in 'favor' of either one, but it took Walmart, what?, 70 or so years to get where it is and Amazon less than 20. I once watched a panel where Buffet sideways chided Bezos and now look where he's at. Shop local, that's my motto.

While the first sentence is probably true (Walmart does nothing but Amazon does a little), there's plenty to complain about Amazon.

Here's one article that I just happen to remember specifically because it was recent. Amazon gives business to questionable sellers/resellers and screws over the legitimate publishers and authors:

https://www.vox.com/culture/2017/5/1...ng-controversy

They've had other controversies around their Prime practices and price discrimination. Not to mention that after more or less actively destroying every mom and pop bookstore they could for the past 15 years they're opening brick and mortars now.

I mean don't get me wrong, I know they opened B&Ms because I went into one and spent money in one. I'm not boycotting them, just pointing out that they're just as Big Business as any other big business.

Walmart is the largest employer across the heartland. 22 states actually.

Why does Walmart being a bad guy have anything to do with Amazon being a bad guy?

Those aren't the only two companies in the world.

Ding ding ding.

Or, specifically, if it's reasonably close, choose an S-corp or LLC over a C-corp.

I hate Bezos. Everything is positioned for Walmart to crush Amazon. Walmart has all those brick & mortar stores. They set prices, Amazon hopes to follow. Walmart has a crap website though. They need to fix that ****.

I remember when Sam Walton was still alive. He was America First, sorta like that other billionaire that lives on the east coast. There were no Chinese goods in his stores. It was "quaint". You would see all this funky stuff made by little companies you never heard of. But they were American. All the tv's and electronics were foreign made, of course, but any time they could find American made product, that would be in the stores instead of the foreign stuff.

Wot. You'd bet on Walmart over Amazon?

I do not enjoy Amazon anymore than I enjoy Walmart, except Amazon has the funnies online with their customer reviews, and Walmart has the funnies in person in the form of adipose stuffed into legging-sausage-casings.

Get an email from Cox which is my ISP that I have to upgrade my email security by the 25th or my email won't work. They provide a page w/ illustrated instructions. So off I go, getting along great and thinking 'you're doing pretty good for an old' when I hit a snag even though I'm following the instructions. End up calling Apple support where they have a cool feature that allows them to see your screen but not do anything. End up w/ some super-expert bec the first person couldn't figure it out, he takes one look and says 'they're using an old screen-shot' and fixes it. My damn bill is $280/mo and they use an out of date screen-shot.

Thanks for listening.

The government's shut down so the Internet Freedom Act isn't being enforced. No freedom on the Internet for the next few days.

$280 for cable, internet and two land lines and that's after my sister got a discount for threatening to switch to satellite. But that's not the point. I was happy w/ myself, getting into screens that I'd never known were there, only to have those yo-yos not even getting it right and causing me to waste a half hour or so.

I hate Cox. I pay more in this small town than I did in San Jose, where everything is more expensive. Except cable.

Years back I discovered that I could get service from Cox fastest if I punched the number for 'help w/ paying your bill' which they answered immediately and then told them that I wanted customer support to which I got transferred at once rather than waiting forever if I'd selected that one from the phone robot.

Yeah, basically anything where you threaten them not to pay seems to help. I have to renegotiate Comcast here every year to get the promo rate, which is like $20-30/month cheaper.
