Don't dismiss "a home" out of hand. There are all sorts. It doesn't have to be one of those big corporate complexes. I know of people that operate out of a standard 3 or 4 bedroom house with 3 or 4 tenants, all with licensed and trained caregivers. I've seen people perk up when they have more people of similar age to interact with.

Bec of me mom gets to go out every day at least to lunch or dinner and occasionally the casino or a movie. Her mind is sharp and she has an interest in living and does not belong in a home, however nice. Excuse me for having started this discussion.

No need to apologize for mentioning it! You're a good guy, it's good for you and your mother that you're taking care of her. Too bad she took a turn for the worse so that you had to cancel your trip, I was going to suggest meeting up while you were in Vegas.

Thanks, I was going to send you a pm in case you wanted to meet at The Orleans 08! Tomorrow we hit up Casino Arizona's 'lousy' casino w/ the no good version of The Wheel of Fortune slot machine and the terrible buffet.

No poker at Casino Arizona, that's why it's lousy!

Teach her how to count cards at blackjack.

You m***** $5, she drops $100 whenever the count goes +4. When the count is low she argues with you about whether they're called clubs or clovers.

When the games were at Ft. McDowell and she could drive I tried to teach her 08 so she could have something to do and make a few dollars at the 4-8 but she got frustrated after a couple of 15 minute lessons. Apparently flushing $300 down the WoF slot machine is more fun.

Poker has fewer flashing lights and less music to entertain you while you're waiting for the next thing to happen.

You may want to reconsider what "a home" is. It's not necessarily what it used to be 20-30 years ago. There's a much wider range of services than there used to be, especially as the aging population is getting larger and people are living longer.

For example, there are facilities where it's literally just old people living together as a social community, and residents have full freedom to go where they please, and do whatever they want. There are ones that are minimal care, where they just check in regularly (usually daily) with the residents to make sure everything is okay (so that if someone falls, they don't go for 3-4 days without someone noticing).

Independent Living Communities

In independent living retirement communities, the care recipient has full choice and control over all aspects of his or her life. He or she must be independent in all aspects of daily living such as bathing, dressing, being mentally alert, having bowel and bladder control, and being able to walk. These communities provide a living environment for individuals of a certain age and come in many housing styles, including single-family dwellings, townhouses, duplexes, high-rise apartments, condominiums, and mobile homes, which are either rented or owned by the individual. Additionally, the variety of services offered varies between retirement communities, with some offering only police and fire protection and others offering social and recreational activities as well.
[Highlighted to show the level of independence that is possible.]

If it is causing you emotional distress (and it appears that it is), these types of facilities give you a little extra space to not be "just a caretaker" for your mom. She can have a life that is a little more independent of you, and you more independent of her. That could be very constructive for her, especially if she feels guilt for being a disruption to your life (which is definitely a thing that happens).

I appreciate that everyone is trying to be helpful, thanks all.

In return you owe us pics of your mom at the poker table wearing a hoodie, iPod, and sunglasses.

Couple weeks ago, this LOL, super-nice, nearly-deaf, most-likely-filthy-rich, daytime reg bluffed me on the river with a 7-high busted flush draw. I snapped her off, but this makes me seriously wonder if I'm folding too much lately.

Depends on the reciprocation of your own busted 7 highs.

I'd like to be the 548748574th person to bid Ozzy a farewell from Massachusetts. Here's to a legendary career, a fantastic repertoire, and a legacy which has yet to be determined.

I feel bad when I get raised by little old ladies going for thin value.

Howard, how ya feelin'?

When I am rich I am going to buy a house in western MA or VT just so I can spend mid-September to mid-October there every year.

Why bother? Just gamble enough to get comped a room at Foxwoods.
09-07-2018 , 01:49 PM
Why would I gamble if I were rich?

I am going to run for POTUS w/ the promise of making it illegal to be forced to wake up at 7 a.m.

Don't we already have a POTUS who was elected because people are mad as hell and not going to take it anymore?
