I ate so much food this Christmas. I also pet the dog a lot. Now I'm eating more food.

Had steak twice. They were not wafer thin.

Merry Christmas everyone!

You're probably smarter than me, if you had already realized these things:

christmas is not just about who you share it with, it's also about the ones no longer around to participate in the festivities. cheers to all. may we become timeless as a twinkle in an eye in a photograph.

the long awaited unofficial small stakes holdem power rankings, to be determined, are not just about those hands we have played determined by the mfcf^147, but it's also about the possibility of generative networking. I think this means that a proper ranking is more complicated than I originally expected. Perhaps I must reshape my hypothesis.

Got invited to a home game that IanJ will be attending tomorrow. $15/$30 mix with lots of games I have not really played. Very interested in networking but those stakes are kind of steep to learn at.

Counteroffer ldo.

Just ask them of they can make it 7.5/15 for the first hour and offer to bring the beer. Or ask if anyone would object to you sitting out the games furthest in left field (assuming you make a good faith effort to play the games in shallow left), in return for you bringing the beer.

IME anyone who brings beer can be accomodated. I don't know who IanJ is but the home games I've played in are VERY friendly. Like one time I hosted and neither had the foresight to have change for cashing out, nor did I secure an agreement regarding the food (I paid out of pocket). Fortunately, Gamblor killed both birds with one stone - everyone agreed to shove all-in until someone Highlandered all the money, and my 62o went runner-runner to defeat JJ. My $80 winnings went to paying for $60 of pizza and beer, and I rubbed the last $20 on my titties to underscore how much better I am at poker than they are.

What games? Sounds like fun, though obviously not an opportunity to make a big payday or anything.

Ian won two bracelets is 2016, 10k LHE and 1500 HORSE. Tough competition to say the least.

IanJ = Ian Johns

"Last week we played 2 rounds of double board Omaha, Archie, beducy, badugi, stud hi lo, razz but 2-7 qualifier, Omaha 8,2-7 TD, A-5 TD."
12-26-2017 , 09:49 PM
He won some bracelets or something.

why would you play stakes above your comfort zone in games that you know nothing about? if you want to network, go and deal the game for them or something
12-26-2017 , 10:28 PM
Because he wants to be one of the cool kids.

Playing with some other inexperienced friends makes it appealing. I'm not sure I want to. I'm still on the fence.

Dealing the game is an interesting idea.

God you guys are pussies. Wreck that game DK
12-26-2017 , 11:27 PM
Yeah. I mean it's a little bigger than I'd like to "train" at, but I'm playing $30/$60 right now so it's not like the stakes are gonna break me.

The information you can learn in one night by getting your teeth kicked by better players can be worth infinity more than what you lose in a night of 15/30. Don’t worry if the players are better than you, play solid, and gain a **** ton of actual experiments against the actual players you’ll need to need beat if you ever want to be good at the mix. Don’t listen to people to read end players. If you want to get great, you need to learn to beat great players. You’ll never learn how if you’re scared to entire a line up because you may be a dog. You just end up a bitter, mediocre player
12-27-2017 , 12:13 AM
Sounds perfect - lower than your normal stakes but high enough to put effort into trying to win.

LOL I thought you primarily played like 4/8 in which case I was willing to entertain the notion that you were going to be financially devastated by a 15/30 loss.

If you have played 15/30+ more than once, I'm with ZOMG.

I play more $8/$16 than anything else - mostly out of convenience. $20/$40 would be my reg limit if I didn't have to drive 40 minutes to play it.

I'm less concerned about the players and stakes than I am the games proposed: Archie, double board Omaha? Badeucy. Razz with a 2-7 qualifier? Im interested in being proficient at all games in the 8-game mix, but nothing really beyond that.
12-27-2017 , 01:44 AM
I’m sure you could figure the Razz 2-7 out, as long as they don’t mean razzdeucey. The others you mention would be tougher for sure.

Split pot draw games give me a headache just thinking about them. Never played them, though.

I'm pretty sure all decent sized mid-stakes and above mixed games are basically including these games (ARIA) now, so it's a good idea to get good at them even if they seem like screwball games.
12-27-2017 , 01:50 AM
Must be nice. I get to play those games at 40/80 to learn them.

If you're not interested, then don't go.

Not sure what the dilemma is. If you're eager to name drop bracelet winners I'm sure ZOMG would let you take him out to dinner.

My bracelet training home games are $2/$4 Limit with $0.25/$0.50 blinds for NLHE and PLO and no 3x bracelet winners in them... so it's usually nicer!

I am interested. It sounds fun. I'm disappointed in the game mix.

Playing mix with a super accomplished mix game player seems cool to me. I'll always be a fan of the game and interacting with the best players in poker is something I'll probably always find interesting.

Maybe you should invite Ian to your 2/4 LHE game.
