Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

My AA lost to A9s on a T83r flop (he went runner-runner flush). OK - no big deal. It was the chat afterwards that I found amusing.

Me: Nice hand
Him: Thanks. I flopped a straight draw but hit my flush.
Me: You didn't flop a straight draw.
Him: Yes, I did - 89T.

He could have made a straight.

I've never understood why people try to correct their opponents. Best case scenario is you teach them about poker.

As a matter of fact, one of my favorite live troll moves is to declare "set" when I have trips or vice versa, and then watch the fireworks.

He clearly flopped an open ended straight flush draw.

I used to do this, but rarely found someone that cared. Maybe I'll save it for when I play NL as most of those players seem to have a stick up their ass.

I've been doing this wrong my whole life apparently. I've been a crusader for set=set, trips=trips. It gets me sooooooo mad when others just don't believe me or just sugar-coat their reply. So friggin MAD!!!; it simply tilts me to no end. I just want to strangle somebody. The friggin' morans. Why do....

Oh,,,,wait......

The worst thing about the Orleans is when they host a halfway big-sized event, it overwhelms the parking and there's no place for an ordinary casino visitor to park.

That's actually pretty damn funny.

In other news, I just correctly called drawing with 22 on a Q855 board.

The key to success is to make sure someone cares before you do it. Usually I do it to deflect attention from a fish that's being berated.

You'll definitely find more opportunities in NL than in LHE. Look for people who look around after they make a nasty comment (the ones who think there are eight 10 bb/hr winners and one -200 bb/hr loser at a table, and when they zing "the" fish they make sure all the other pros know it).

I keep trying to force myself to play tournaments when I'm bored. I continue to feel miserable whenever I play.

At least I've cashed the last 3?

I recently played my second live tourney ever. It was kind of a disaster as it was a LHE tourney. I came back from first break with about 26 bets and a well above average chip stack. In a 3 hand stretch I had top set, top two and a flush all lose to better hands and I was short. I held on for a while and got it in with broadway against an 8 high flush draw that of course got there. It reminded me of the first live tourney I ever played where I grinded for like 5 hours to bust on the stone bubble.

I'd really like to play more as I used to fire them up every once in a while and had a pretty good RIO (shipping a Sunday supernova freeroll for 13k helped immensely) when I played them online but my live experiences have just been the nut low.

Live tourneys changed my life so it seems like a good skill set to have.

Yeah, run good in a few random hands that happen to be at critical spots in a tourney and think you are god's gift to poker.

Good skill set.

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

He's not wrong. But the key is being in those critical pots at critical stages. Continually putting yourself in position to win those pots and win big events. I've lost plenty of heartbreakers too. It has been nice to be on the other side of those late contest coolers.

I know I'm on a two year dream run, but it's allowed me to play the biggest stakes available to me with zero risk of ruin and no daily or monthly stress... and at my core, I'm a cash game player.

I don't know about the God's gift to poker comment though. I thought we were past contempt pope?

I just think if you are good at tournaments, as well as at playing cash, then good things can happen.

Consider sacrificing your firstborn to the Lord of Tight.

Blessed be the Lord of Tight, for the flop is dark and full of terrors!

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

I had the ol' 66 first hand into a tournament with a 56Q flop

Yeah obviously I was no good.

I also had A2KK in PLO8 earlier

4993K

Yes, again, I was no good. No action until river and I knew it when he re-potted.

Here's kind of a fun spot

NLO8 MTT right near the bubble, I'm a median stack of 14 bb (lol turbos)

AAA2 UTG 8 handed. Just jam it in there because blockers are too sick?

Seems standard. You're not gonna be a dog to any hand that calls, are you?

Thats not a bad hand. Better than most A2 combos I would assume except for AA2 hands.

Really I've just played too many hands and gone through the motions enough times to know that the games that I love are the most abusive and destructive to the psyche and bankroll.

LOL omaha-aments

I think you'd want to get action, so put in something 3-5x and then jam the flop? Never played NLO8 before.

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

You don't really have much room to play flops with a 15 bb stack. Although I'm not sure if you should play this stack size differently in NLO8. I would jam AA here in NLHE against most fields - meaning I would have to be playing against total dolts to have a non-jamming opening range here.
