Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

Random Q: Are there any 5 chip/10 chip games in the country other than the Hustler 25/50? I'm thinking specifically of a T/20 game played with $2 chips or a 15/30 game played with $3 chips.

30/60 in CO is 6-chip/12-chip IIRC with a 10-chip/20-chip kill.

Yeah Casino AZ used to have a 60/120 with $10 chips.

Back in the good old days

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

Anyone know the story on the 1/2-2/4 stud 8 games on ACR/Blackchip? I have always been tempted to put $200 on the site just to occasionally screw around in those games. But stud games are notoriously shady online since collusion/hole card sharing goes way up in value. Even at such low stakes, I don't want to get cheated just on principle. I am assuming the games are just a bunch of Bovada refugees who switched sites when Bovada stopped offering stud.

Bonus question: Why does stud 8 go all the time, but not stud hi?

Thanks for any insight!

The pics I've seen from the Colorado games have included lots of greens.

I am pretty sure that the 50/100 game at CP is played with green chips but I'd be willing to bet that there are a fair number of browns in that game. Some just posted about it maybe he can confirm.

I've played in these games a little bit. I think the games are good and I haven't noticed anything that seemed nefarious. The main problem I have is that the stakes are too low to make much money playing 1-2 tables and I find it really hard to multi table more than 2 stud tables because I can't keep up with what cards are dead.

Bonus question: I think Stud 8 is just a more popular game in general than Stud these days. Stud high has died off pretty much everywhere except Commerce, Foxwoods and maybe Borgata as far as I know. And I feel like those games are mostly inhabited by an older crowd and have a good chance of not being around either in another 10 years. And it's likely not many members of this older crowd play online. Stud 8 is rarely spread on its own but is a popular inclusion in many mixed games around the country, which tend to attract a younger crowd.

i jump into those sometimes when i want to mash buttons and i haven't noticed anything shady. probably the biggest enemy is the rake more than any collusion or tomfoolery. the 1/2 games have been going for a while but have certainly gotten a bit stronger since bovada whacked stud - those refugee effects are seen mostly at 4/8 and up imo, as well as in a slight strengthening of the lhe and lo8 action.

stud8 is just a lot more popular than stud hi, and i think is more approachable for people who already have some idea of how to play games with a low, like lo8 or razz. stud hi is kind of its own world.

Brainwashing in schools but it starts even earlier. My son was listening to here we go around the Mulberry bush and I wa shocked when so early in the morning was dubbed over with to save the earth from global warning (after going back other lyrics were changed as well).

He was giggling during the song, I assume the notion that global warming exists is quite amusing

And where exactly were you listening to this? On the radio? On a CD? On youtube? On television? DVD?

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

The 10/20 was four-handed when I got to it. I said I would report back my worst play of the night...

I sat anyway.

Got nibbled in Omaha, got nibbled in Stud-8. Fired off 15 or so bets in short order. Played heads up and smashed 10 hands in a row. Worst play of the night: leaving the heads-up match that I was demolishing in.

Also this happened

That game usually runs with the brown $10 chips.

You realize that the Star Spangled Banner (as well as half the hymns you sing at church) are recycled melodies with the lyrics changed, right?

My mind was blown the first time I actually heard 'God Save the Queen' when I realized that 'My Country, 'Tis of Thee' is basically the same music. How patriotic is that when we are using the country's anthem that we were ruled by originally?

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

Sigh. Have been running great for about 3 months - up 350BBs or so in about 100 hours (sustainable imo). Decided to take a shot at a bigger game today. It looked too good to pass up, plus I wasn't going to get into my main game for a couple hours (wouldn't start a must move). Proceeded to dump three racks in about 2 hours. Game was amazing - never fails. This hand was pretty typical:

Terrible guy posts UTG, somehow it folds to me and I raise 33 OTB. Awful loose woman calls SB and a reasonably solid player calls BB.

Flop comes A23r. Checked to me and I bet, SB calls, BB CR, UTG calls, I 3! and they all call. Turn is a 5, putting two spades on the board. SB donks (which means she has a 4 for sure, BB folds and UTG raises. I consider my options and know that SB is never going to 3! without the nuts so I call. She 3! (woops) and UTG now 4!. I call and SB elects not to cap.

River is the Ks and it somehow checks around.

That was pretty much my day in a nutshell right there.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

[nit]
Action is wrong.

You bet the turn, sb c/r, other guy 3!, you called and SB 4!.

River brought in a theoretical flush draw so of course SB can't bet 64. Other guy had 44.
[/nit]

Also the 20 game is usually super soft so definitely worth another shot.

Played 50/100 last week, it uses brown $10 chips.

I did encounter one thing that I don't know I e seen before. There was a guy who was "reverse raising". He would limp AK and QQ but raise J8s and ATo. And it wasn't with the intent to LRR either. It was difficult to adjust to at first. The QQ hand flop came Q33 and he never made an aggressive action until betting the river. I had the NFD and would have donned the river had it come in.

There was a guy on pre-BF Pokerstars that did this. He ran about 80/20, but from every position except UTG it was top 20% and from UTG it would be bottom 20% (with the top 20% limped and not reraised). Once I noticed this I started taking the Jesus seat which was 3 to his right, and when it folded to me, I'd 3-bet him with redonkulous hands and then everyone would get really mad when we ended up at showdown with my 95s > his 74o.

I've played guys who went as high as 8/16 OL who would play like this. They'd run like 55/7 or 48/6 or something (limping hands like 88 and AJs), but then raise like 95o totally at random.

I honestly can't listen to NPR anymore. Not because I disagree with the politics, I just find it incredibly boring. And they are always doing pledge drives which makes me want to stab myself with a pencil.
