Why would you be insulted (or care) if somebody called you a dick on the internet on an anonymous poker forum
09-06-2017 , 09:56 PM
To be fair, most everyone in this forum has written some piss-poor strategy advice, myself included.

IME, the really good players don't give a **** about someone else saying they play bad, because they know they are good at poker and if someone mis-estimates them as being bad, it's more funny & profitable than insulting.

So yeah, basically don't take it personally if other people say you suck at poker, because it's either A) true and you need to learn something (which applies to 99% of us) or B) false, and you already know it.

That's fine. Go ahead and be annoyed. But then get back to the hand. Is your assumption that MP=HJ and that the listed range actually representative of what happens at whatever you imagine an 8/16 table is? If it's not, then say, "Oops! I misread the position" or "This is probably too many hands for most 8/16 tables." Or if you really believe what you said, then reiterate it and say "In my experience, 8/16 table open-raises from MP look like this."

Then I got a little more annoyed when you ignored the point:
First, "the point" isn't something you actually said until *after* the post. So you can't blame me for not responding to "the point" if you don't make "the point" in the first place.

But can you also see how that's not actually "the point"? You can insert that statement into any thread at all and claim that it's "the point." It's not really about this hand at all. It's just some claim that you want to make about your assumptions about how to play poker. It's not about the hand range you presented, or anything specific to this hand.

(Not to mention that I actually argued in very specific terms against this claim. I don't even think it's true if you're taking "ideal" to mean GTO.)

I'm not going to continue doing a line by line with you, but if you're not able to see how your reaction is a little weird given the context of the thread, I'm not sure if any amount of words I use can help you to see it.

Tonight's LATB is a 20-40 that I swear they loaded these guys up with chips for free as a marketing tool. Also, I hate that LA allows playing out of racks.

Yup, I'm weird. I can live with that.

No, but I'm aware that some people call MP = HJ, including equilab, which lists the HJ as MP3.

The op never said "fold" between the open raiser, some other imaginary people, and then the fish cutoff calling. So instead of assuming that the op was talking about a seat three spots from the button, I chose to put up my ranges for what we both know is the HJ. ****ing oops. Ok?

I played 350 hours in the bike's 20 last year. I can confirm it's ridiculously soft. I traveled 1500 miles to play it.

Does it even matter if I agree with you? You've clearly got something to prove, but I have no idea what it is. Maybe it's that you're in a pissy mood and you can't let it go. If that's the case, please prove away.

I just wanna talk about poker without you trying to get me to lash out. It's like you're trying to win a bet that I'll get banned from 2+2.

At this point in my game I'm comfortable and take the game most seriously at > 6/12 which is a problem if you ask me. I've never been able to take limits under my "comfort zone" seriously enough and I really do just explode into donkey-land for the few dealers I'll last through.

tl;dr only at lol-limits do I do said stupidity

Figure out how the ignore button works. It makes this site readable.

I find it useful to keep in mind that different people post for different reasons (just like in life in the real world - people are motivated by different things). It's not always possible to have a constructive debate on the terms that you want. Adjusting your expectations or adjusting who you interact with are two steps one can take.

I'd suggest that you bear down and get yourself under control. 'A few dealers' is too many bec what you lose there is real money.

I want to revisit my original reply in which I said 'to heck w/ it' if you only do it rarely. In my game players peel w/ any pair getting far less than 14:1. When that somewhat rare circumstance happens to me I often make the call myself bec I really, really want to show that I did it. It's a fraction of a bet that I think is worth risking occasionally.

I thought I'd drop in and share a cat. To, well, … save the micros:

Real money yes. As I said, definitely a real problem in the grand scheme of things if a player routinely plays at a limit they don't "take seriously."

Can we get a support group going for those who make bad calls? Micros Anonymous or something?

It's hard to take a game seriously when the rake makes it unbeatable in the first place.

I can confirm that I'm not in a "get Bob banned" bet, nor am I going out of my way to go after you, if that helps you at all. I have no idea why you're so prickly/defensive/angry so often with me. And that's not something I think I can help you with.

But I will suggest that you think back to your motivation behind post #1211. There wasn't much happening for a little bit and then you suddenly felt compelled to make an announcement to the forum that you weren't sorry about something. I find that to be really weird. It's almost like you spent 3 days stewing about and it bubbled over even though basically nothing was happening.

Not sure where all this antagonism comea from but when I thought I got permabanned from 2p2 over thr past few days Bob and Aaron would make the list of people I'd have been sad to never have met.

Aaron and I and Bob and I have separately had several productive disagreements.

---

Bob style post.

---

I thought I got permabanned because the app stopped working.

---

Apparently the app is a legacy app that is no longer supported. Ironically a few weeks ago I was remarking to myself how stable the app was and how 2p2 didnt feel the need to constantly update it and add annoying features.

---

Those of you who use Tapatalk should double check your privacy settings. 2p2 is an "anonymous Internet site" but apparently some people have had problems with Tapatalk being not so anonymous. Just sayin' for those of you who are known to walk around with thousands of dollars in potentially dark money.

---

Not banned. Sorry, haters.

---

Good morning.

It was to start this conversation, which I felt was necessary. Perhaps it was a weird way to start such a conversation. Oops.

Welcome back cali, good morning, or afternoon here.

Did you get what you needed?

Time will tell I suppose. I'm sure to let you know if you piss me off in the future though. Deal?
