Might be Thursday/Friday, I'll throw a post on here if I get down there.

Oaks 15/30 back in the heyday. Off the chain main game on 18, off the chain must move on 16.

The floorman comes over and asks if people could mind coloring up because they are running out of $5 chips. I graciously agree to color up 2 racks and am left with a mere 2.5 in front of me.

It's not enough. There's more than a 2 rack shortage, and the floorman comes back and says they're going to force people to color up if he doesn't get more volunteers. A few other people grudgingly volunteer and the debt ceiling crisis is temporarily averted.

Since this is the NC/LC thread:

Something similar occasionally happens at the Ultimate Texas Hold'em pit game because it is typically a $5 game with usually a minimum of 4 chips and up for each of 6 players per hand at a full table, and wild swings. On more than one occasion, I've had the floor call for a fill when things were going well for the table only for everyone to mostly go busto a half hour later and the tray is filled to overflowing.

Moving to Abu Dhabi on the 25th of September. Headed to Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark on the 12th.

I have a layover in San Jose on the 11th. Someone convince me to incinerate some monies at the Bay limited Texas that night.

How long is your layover? Sometimes the wait can be long to get a seat. If you play 20 or higher be sure to call and get on the list as soon as you land. Call right now to make sure it'll be open.

If it is open, it's almost walking distance from the airport. The new location, that is. FYI about airport taxis - it's $15 minimum fare even if they only drive to the corner.

1.) Take a bear.

2.) Abu what?

The layover is overnight.

I may overvalue image and how often people will take shots at me, but today I watched a guy checkraise turn on QJx-J and then check-muck AJ faceup for one bet when a Q rolled off on the river. I personally don't ever want to be known as a hero-folder
08-30-2017 , 01:35 AM
At 4-8?!????
08-30-2017 , 02:17 AM
6-12.

I peeled flop with T7s on QTx with one of my suit when the same guy led in to me on flop (he had completed SB and I had checked my option, we took the flop like 5 ways). Two other callers and I spiked a T on the turn. This individual check-folded turn and later claimed AQ.

Now, this may not be true because he didn't fold faceup, but I'm definitely going to be looking for reasonable scare card spots in the future.

6-12, same thing and am amazed that someone would c/f.

Of all the things that people mentioned were banned in the UAE - gambling, drinking, strippers, etc. - is poker the one you're really going to miss the most?

They also block porn so add that to the list.

block porn is okay, interracial is really a thing these days.

One of the reasons for this is because there's no proof that "table image", in the sense that people use it in this forum, actually exists.

That doesn't mean players don't make adjustments to their perceptions of how you play. Some players do, some players don't. And many times what appear to be "adjustments" are nothing more than that player experiencing short term variance in the cards that he or she is being dealt.

There's ZERO math behind the idea that there's this "image" that you can have that is more +EV than other images you can have. It's all based on anecdotes, and anecdotes are almost worthless in a game where it takes more than 10,000 hands to definitively pronounce anything.

I personally think not giving a hoot about your table image is +EV. Certainly better than making unscientific adjustments.
08-30-2017 , 02:00 PM
I completely disagree and your table image isn't simply how you play your cards.
08-30-2017 , 03:00 PM
I agree with pope. Wearing my WVU cap often helps whatever 'image' I might have (assuming I play accordingly).

Right. I thought this was common knowledge?

Look there is no data about anything in live poker. To contend that table image is meaningless just because there hasn't been a scientific study on it is just silly. I think it is generally overblown by some players but it is important nonetheless.

I agree that there's ZERO math, but there's a ton of psychology that shows how you are perceived impacts how people respond. I would not be at all surprised to discover that there's enough implicit bias that a young black player and an old white player would have different EVs even if playing identically.

I generally agree with this. However, if you're the table jerk, you should definitely care about your table image because it's -EV for you to drive off the casual players.

LOL there's enough *explicit* bias that I *know* those two players would have different EVs.

Here are some things people have said to my *face*, my gambly, yellow face:

"Why is it that you Asians play feel-based strategies rather than math-based strategies?"

"I bet you live off your daddy's trust fund."
"Um, I work for Novartis."
"Well I bet your daddy owns the company."

"What do you do during the day that allows you to drop $500 a night like this?"
(FTR: "I'm a pimp.")

And on the other end of the spectrum, here are some of the things people have said to my face, my nerdy, four-eyed face:

"25 times 24 ... 25 times 24. I bet callipygian knows this off the top of his head."
(FTR: I did.)

"I'd play 3-handed with almost any two people but not with two people who look like they went to Ivy League schools."

(To his neighbor) "Watch out for the techie types. This guy (nods at me) looks like he played a million hands on the Internet before any of us heard about the Internet."

FTR, I've seen how great table images can affect WR over thousands of hours and I wish I had said image (rather than "typical kid who doesn't limp and caps AK and other stuff" that I currently seem to have).

LOL -- I was trying to make an argument based on abstract concepts and not experience.

The table image I would have wished for is to be an attractive woman. I swear that some of those old guys called just so that they could justify looking staring "them" down a bit.
