Thanks for the sentiment. For 88 years old she's doing ok and, as a matter of fact, we just got back from Talking Stick where I took her to play her Wheel of Fortune slot machine bec I'm too weak to tell her no. She was down to 3 spins before busto when she hit a rush and ended up winning $155. After the buffet I told her that means she can go back next week.

..........and I could probably get her to walk a mile w/ her walker if I pulled a Wheel of Fortune slot machine in front of her, lol.

Made me laugh. As to 3-betting that hand I did it regularly when I played 20 against all but the tightest rocks. At 4-8 I'd dump it. Might sound bad to the readers but at Talking Stick they actually limp big hands first in from either the CO or button. And then get pissed when they lose w/ AA bec 'I didn't want to lose my customers.' One of the dumbest sayings in poker, that one.

At the risk of sounding too sappy, good on you, sir. This is good.

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

The question often comes up, "When do I leave?"

Was stuck a rack, now clawed back to up a little less than a rack.

I'm in s9, s6 is stuck and posts small with 5 chips behind, s7 posts big, right next to the small, as in too close.

couple folds, s1 raises, gets a couple coldcallers and s6 sees the 4 chips and throws 2 in at which point s7 moves his BB away and s6 now realizes he owes the rest of his chips and wants to take the whole thing back (there has been no action behind). Floor is called and s6 is allowed to take it back and some stuff happens in the hand.

VERY NEXT HAND, s7 now posts the small and s8 posts the big. I fold UTG and there's a few limpers, then s7 grabs a handful of chips and acts like he's cutting out a raise, but leaves 3 chips on the felt. s8 thinks s7 has raised and puts 3 chips in and one of the limpers asks who raised. Dealer says BB and now s8 gets upset because he thought s7 raised. Floor is called again and I rack up and leave.

I leave when the players are all a bunch of angleshooting nitwits (but not nits) too.

Something in the water, or the full moon...different table, different day, different players.

Pot's been raised, decent amount of action, river double pairs board and it checks to button, who bets. UTG who raised PF, has been talking nonstop and may be the slowest player ever is hemming and hawing about a call. Finally grabs some chips, makes a forward motion, and in so doing causes the CO to muck, but UTG says, "no" and flips his cards up, showing A-high, and doesn't drop the chips. What a world

Was this at Bay? They have a forward motion rule. If one of the good floors was called he would have to pay.

We've got a forward motion rule in Tunica now thank god. The angle shooting was endless from a few of the miserable 4/8 regs.

Howard, you are the resident Wildhorse Pass expert. Seems like they are getting a wider variety of games than they had in the past. Any reason not to play there?

15 minute more drive. I used to go there when they had the 8-16 and stopped when it was wearing out. I'd heard that they didn't even have it much anymore.

And, btw, Pope is the resident WHP expert.

20/40 mix went yesterday (was actually OE) because the game starter decided he wanted to play there instead of CAZ.

I was first on the list for like 6 hours.

I will attempt to post more. For example.

I open the gun (not under the gun....the gun) with what should be my signature holding (88). Doc (who is actually an emergency room doc and prides himself on feeling superior to me) cold calls the next seat (which he changed to 4 hands ago to get position on the fish, me) like the expert that he is. The big blind defends (she's the small blind from my other thread).

AQ2r

I bet they both call. I reach into my pocket and extract my white flag.

6

BB checks, I begin waving my flag, Doc bets in rhythm, BB raises in rhythm, I am already ordering lunch, doc calls.

Q

BB bets, Doc calls, BB has QJo, Doc has AJo.

Who is the champion of this hand?

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

The 2 1/2 hour ride to Waterville Valley in New Hampshire on Saturday morning was uninterrupted by rain until we got off of Interstate 93 onto NH route 47, which leads to the campground of our destination. Since it was raining, and also since setting up tents and such in the rain is not much fun, and also also since we didn't bring much food or beer or booze, we decided to stop at the local town square, which consisted of a brick courtyard surrounded by shops, including a grocery store. In the middle of the courtyard was a supposed information booth which happened to catch my eye for two reasons. The first reason is that I collect maps. I'm fascinated and obsessed with maps. The second reason that the information booth caught my eye was that there was an attractive female behind the counter that I apparently just had to meet.

After finding the bathrooms, which was of utmost importance, we went grocery shopping and got enough stuff to last at least through the weekend. Total cost was about 150 bucks. Then we brought all of the stuff to the car and my brother in law remembered that he wanted to stock up on cigarettes. He and my sister went back to the grocery store which left me with nothing to do. I couldn't help myself from wandering over to the information booth.

I drew a blank as I approached, which is totally normal for me when I see attractive women; nothing to worry about because I knew she had the map that I was looking for.

"Hello, what's this place?" I asked.

"Hi, this is the information booth." which was confirmed by the large lettered signage above my head that read "information."

"Do you have hiking maps?" I asked.

She replied, "Yes I do. What kind of hiking are you looking for?" Then very subtly she smiled and brushed the hair on one side of her head behind her ear.

I answered, "Well I don't have my boots with me. I only brought my sneakers. So something easy that I can handle in sneakers with my brother and his young kids."

Then the body language got intense. The young lady took off her raincoat, put a map on the counter, and began playing with her hair with both hands as if she was going to put it up into a pony tail. However, there was apparently nothing for her to tie her hair up within reaching distance, so once she stopped playing with it, it just fell right back into place. Then she inched closer and leaned over the counter that was so rudely separating us and seeming to taunt me. I leaned over the counter a bit as well because really, I couldn't resist. She pointed to the map, which had entirely escaped my thoughts despite the small number of seconds that had passed while the young lady captured my attention.

"This one is my favorite. It's about four miles and it's pretty easy." She said. Then she continued to describe exactly how to get to the parking area on the north side of town that I would never get to see. I pointed on the map at the route which led to the suggested hike, and our hands seemed to dance around each other in an effort to get close but not too close.

"Well then, thank you very much for the information. Hope you have a good one." I said in an effort to end the encounter.

"Thanks I hope you enjoy the hike." She said.

We looked at each other for a few seconds, and I knew nothing was going to come of the encounter because she was much too young for me. We exchanged goodbyes and I walked away.

Then we went camping and had a blast. Someday I'll take that hike.

She's not too young for you, you're too old for her. (I resemble that remark)

I'm pretty good. Took a new job a few years ago and I try harder at work now so I cashed out. If I do start my own company I want to name it Table Fifteen in honor of my seed funders.

I still dabble in NL (I actually play as much NL as I did before, just way less LHE) and probably have more hours at M8trix than anywhere else. It's on the way back from a work-related site so I get in an hour or two whenever I leave at 4-5 pm. I could go to Bay too but that would involve an extra left turn and, well, I just care that little.

The last time I played it smart, all the faces were more or less the same. They got rid of the 30/60 props so I don't know if the game runs more or less than it did with the props. Regs still regging - there's a nonzero number of people from your blog posts who still play. Drop has creeped up for sure, I think it's 5+1 now even at 3/6 and maybe 6+1 at 30/60 so I guess I was one of the last to make it out before the bottom of the ladder hit the Chandrasekhar Limit and collapsed into a giant singularity.

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

NC political rant. Mods can delete if this is inappropriate but in reality it's not really political (I just said that so nobody can accuse me of misrepresenting this).

I'm mildly shocked and very disappointed at the latest polls showing a dramatic rise in the number of conservatives that think college is bad for America.

Fundamentally, the world is changing. Integral to the future is the ability to control machines and computers. We won't have cars anymore - we will have computers with wheels. We won't have houses anymore - we will have computers with doors and beds.

It's neither a Democratic nor Republican nor liberal nor conservative thing. It's simply the way things are going to work. We will no longer dig coal out of the ground - we will design and operate and repair robots to dig coal. And if we don't need coal we will design and operate and repair robots to dig out Lanthanides, because our robot overlords demand Lanthanides of our robot servants.

Even poker has not been untouched by this revolution. Think of all the self-taught pros who scoff at Young Internet Punks - those people are at a severe competitive disadvantage. And while you don't need a college degree to run Equilab, you're still dependent on the college-educated mathematicians and computer programmers that wrote it.

A lot of people in leadership positions today pride themselves on pulling themselves up by their bootstraps. Many of them remember the days when they worked their way up from mail clerk to CEO.

Those days are gone.

At my former company, an executive questioned why we didn't have interns like past him - ambitious and smart but uneducated. I pointed out to him that we didn't need to because now we had a pretty vast pool of people who were ambitious, smart, AND educated.

Why does all this matter?

Parents' attitudes about college NOW will make a huge difference LATER in their kids' lives. No matter what you think the cause is of college tuitions skyrocketing (and I'm with conservatives on this issue, federal subsidies are driving up prices faster than the free market would have), the reality is that tuitions will increase faster than inflation and the tuition to income ratio is already higher than what a part time job can bear. That is, in the past you could pay for 40 hours/week of school with a 20 hours/week job; now you can barely pay for 20 h/wk of school with a 40 h/wk job. Parents are going to have to save for and pay for their childrens' college tuitions.

Now, I can almost predict what the arguments are. "We're totally fine with college, but collegeS are bastions of liberalism." And that's true - college is disproportionately liberal, probably because young people are liberal. And while that's not ideal, what's the alternative, putting your kids at an economic disadvantage for the rest of their lives because you don't approve of friends they haven't even met yet?

If this trend persists, here's what's going to happen: we're going to end up with a permanent underclass. People who don't go to college feel increasingly bitter about it and condemn their kids to not even have the option.

Want a success story? Look at Pittsburgh of "I was elected president of Pittsburgh not Paris" fame. Decimated manufacturing economy? Check. Abandoned by multinational conglomerates? Check. Dying? Nope - thanks to colleges. Driven by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Carnegie Mellon, it's attracted Google into old manufacturing plants. And the recipe was pretty simple: fund and support good schools, convince smart graduates it's a good place to live, and watch an economy of the future grow.
