15/30 - flopped flush; turn decision 15/30 - flopped flush; turn decision

7-handed. My 2nd orbit; no reads on players as I've never seen them before

3 limps, SB x, I x with T5

5-way flop, 5 SB: J63
SB bets, I raise, first limper cold calls, folds to SB who 3bets. I call, limper calls.

3-way turn, 7 BB: 7
SB bets.

Call or raise?

1a. If we call and the limper calls and SB bets a brick riv, are we raising?
1b. If we raise brick riv, what do we do if we get 3bet by either player?

2. If we raise turn and the limper folds but SB 3bets, what do we do?

It's not always comfortable, but you have to raise. The most likely holding for your cold calling friend is a big spade, so you need to make things expensive for him and get value. Also, since he has so many big spades, it blocks hands your more aggressive opponent can have that beat you.

I'd just call down if SB 3 bet. Also call down if the limper springs to life and 3 bets, but I'd figure I'm almost never good in that case.

Why did you just call the 3-bet? Whatever plan you made back then, stick to it here. The 7 changes nothing for you.

Either you were calling the 3-bet to raise the turn* (in which case you should raise the turn) or you were calling the 3-bet to NOT raise the turn (in which case you should NOT raise the turn).

Without 4-betting the flop, your hand is a bit underrepped here. SB could easily have sets and two pairs and smaller flushes and think they are good. Particularly with the guy behind you likely drawing to a bigger flush, I think you have to raise.

Had you 4-bet the flop and the SB still lead, id be more likely to go into call down mode.

I think flop is fine and superior to 4betting. I now raise and call down if SB 3bets.

Ok thanks for the replies. I did in fact raise turn and called down after SB 3b. Wasn't sure if that was the right play or if I overplayed my hand so that's why I posted here.

I would also call the flop 3-bet and raise the turn. It's way better for your hand to not cap and let SB bet turn and raise non-spades than it is to cap and be the one betting turn.

It's not an overplay at all - just a cooler if you were overflushed. Definitely calling down vs. 3-bet and pretty much hating it.

It also gives you reads on the SB's raising vs. limpers range. There are 3's bigger than yours in the deck and 5 smaller ones. He has to have 2 of them, with one of the big 3 to win. Would you discount Ax because the villain completed? KQ, KJ, or QJ? Along the same lines, does the villain put in this much action with a Q-high or J-high flush?

In some places, the nut flush gets expertly slowplayed, the Q high flush won't 3 bet two streets, and the singleton A gets massively overplayed. The way our OP posted the hand, you kind of think he lost... but it is pretty rare to run into a live villain who correctly fastplays for value and who doesn't screwplay. Don't hate his chances.

For sure. QQ+ with a spade all seem like hands SB could raise pre, cap flop, and still lead turn. Maybe even JJ.

I think it was limped to our hero in BB.

Yep. I'm confused and did not revisit OP.
