Got it. Great to hear it's working and we will work on the file type detection to prevent confusion in the future

Out of curiosity what pioviewer version do you guys have? 1.9.2.0? I think some people got pushed a higher update for unique fixes to their issues and may have something like 1.9.2.4 but it doesn't force that update. My Pio engine is also 1.9.2 which I believe doesn't go higher. Might be nothing but it's like the only other thing I can think of as an end user that could be an issue. I've exhausted all my possible ideas at this point.

We are also using 1.9.2 and have tried both Pro and Edge and the solution file works with both for us. Can you try setting the timeout in the settings to something really high like 2 minutes just to see what happens?

I just figured out the issue. My solution was to put only these files in a folder:
1. One .cfr file
2. PioSOLVER-pro19
3. pftables.dat
4. TurboActivate.dat
5. TurboActivate.dll
6. TurboActivateCS.dll

After I had just those in a folder and directed it to #2 in settings it immediately worked. I have no idea why it was having issues with my normal PioSolver folder but it might be due to there being too many other files or certain types of files in my regular folder. I have .txt files there and .pdfs and all of pio's folders obviously. So it seems to me the program has some issue when other files are in the folder. Hope this helps you guys narrow down the issue.

EDIT: I started taking out file by file from my Pio folder that wasn't working and nothing would work even when I got the above combination. I then changed folder name and that did nothing. I then copied the folder to the desktop with only the files above and that worked again. The GTO trainer is in my C partition but my Pio folder was in my Z partition and that appeared to create a problem. However, I got my external to work somehow. Hope this troubleshooting helps you guys out.

Can't edit above anymore but I think I have confirmed there is some partition issue. I moved my main Pio Folder to external and that worked right away as well (regardless of files in it) so it appears the issue is GTO trainer can't read properly off of the 2nd partition on my main hard drive.

Aha! That is very helpful, thank you for following up and great to hear that it is now working,

hi great piece of kit. I'm a pio user so look forward to full pio integration.

a couple of minor tweaks / questions.

in the custom game summary it would be good to be able to mouse over the bars and colours and have some text appear explaining what the colours mean and whether they are your % or your GTO solutions %'s

https://pasteboard.co/GF86j3u.png

also in the session browser what does the -ev/100 mean as even on sessions where i have made 0 errors it is showing a high -ev/100, see screenshot

https://pasteboard.co/GF88Dpa.png

only just starting to use the program so obviously not detailed feedback, sorry

Re: Simple GTO Trainer (Free Software) -- Practice GTO with customized drills and vs AI games

also how does the program deal with pio preflop ranges.

some solutions i have have hands like 92o with a very low % - literally 0.0001 - yet in training drills i am seeing a lot of these hands - as if they are all treated as equally likely.

i know it doesnt matter from a EV / strategy standpoint - but in spots with tight ranges playing against a lot of junk that is played 0.0001% means that i am spending a lot of time in parts of the game tree that simply would never come up, and also playing hands that are basically never in the range save for some residual convergence error

Hi,
I'm using a server with 40 cores for my pio stuff. When I run the GTO Trainer and it comes up to the turn/river the task manager tells me, that the pio engine never uses more than 3% of the available CPU, so it seems like he is running on a single core. Is it possible to change that somehow? (The default pio-setting is using all available cores).

Agree 100% on the mouse over, making that display more clear is on our todo list.

Regarding the -ev/100, may I ask what the BB size is in chips in your solution files? Can you also email a screen shot of the summary screen with the hand by hand display for that session to support@simplepostflop.com?

The way it is now, it picks randomly from each hand in the range. This is definitely inefficient and in the future we will make it pick randomly but with weights based on the weight in the hand range (so it would virtually never pick 92o in that spot). Once we get some feedback on that we might also add an adjustable threshold to never pick hands with weight < X.

Thanks for the feedback on this, that is a significant usability flaw that we can improve in the next release.

I believe that we should be able to control the # of cores that pio uses in the future, we're looking into the documentation on this now and hopefully it will make it into the next release or the one after.

What do you mean by GTO? Have you computed an analytic (or numeric) Nash equilibrium strategy?

Yes, GTO Trainer loads in numerical GTO solution files from existing solvers like SimplePostflop and Piosolver. Both of those programs take a bet sizing abstraction as an input and output a GTO strategy.

Re: Simple GTO Trainer (Free Software) -- Practice GTO with customized drills and vs AI games

email sent, thank you.

one other thing when using regular training after you complete a hand, it would be good to see what the other indifferent actions were.

so when faced with a decision to either check or choose one of two sizes if i correctly pick a small bet size it will often say something like

59% - 0.0 ev loss

so 41% of the time the solution either bets a bigger sizes or checks with the same EV. it would be great if that info was displayed at the table when you pick an action. atm you have to come out of the session and look at the summary screen

--------------

i really like the summary feature btw, being able to see how you differ with different parts of your range.

but a great way to find leaks would be to see if you are making mistakes on different board textures. a much more complicated thing to implement, but would be a boss feature if feasible

I have been using the Pio implementation for a few hours now and things works smoothly for the most part. I get a crash around every 50-100 hands and it mostly/only happens when PIO times out for some reason. I also have some feedback on minor things.

I noticed the order, left to right, of buttons is in the opposite direction of most poker clients and reversing the order should be a small improvement.

Being able to set the size of the blind or get mistakes as % of pot can also come in handy to normalize the size of mistakes across different spots. The main concern is that it's somewhat difficult to know what great and poor play in terms of mistakes looks like. Making it easier to find the really large mistakes would also come in handy.

The river sims (when using flop+turn saves) are really fast but there seems to be some larger EV differences even between indifferent actions.
This works well now after increasing river recalc accuracy in PIO to 0.0005 and the only spots that take more than 1-2 seconds to solve are the spots checked all the way down to the river (they take 3-5 seconds).

Re: Simple GTO Trainer (Free Software) -- Practice GTO with customized drills and vs AI games

Hello,
Trying to get that stuff going with Pio but I get some error message.

Initial settings :
- I have a liscence for PioBasic
- GTO Trainer // settings / Pio Path : G:/PioSOLVER/PioSOLVER-basic19.exe
- GTO Trainer // settings / Pio Timeout : 100 sec
- GTO Trainer // Custom Games parameters :
* Path : G:/PioSOLVER/UTG vs BTN/UTG vs BTN - KsTs4d
* "Read Recursive" : unchecked
* Mode : Regular

- Content of the "G:/PioSOLVER/UTG vs BTN/UTG vs BTN - KsTs4d" folder :
* "solution gto de référence.cfr" (size : 789 Ko)
* "solution gto de référence.cfr.txt" (16Ko)
* no other files in that folder

- Error message given by GTO Trainer :

" Pio error message : "ERROR:load_tree couldn't open G:/PioSOLVER/UTG vs BTN/UTG vs BTN - KsTs4d/solution gto de référence.cfr, the file doesn't exists or isn't a valid save".

NB : Pio is up to date.

Plz help

Showing the mixed strat at the table is a good suggestion, I've passed it on to the devs.

Regarding the board textures, that is a great idea but a bit complex. It is on our longer term todo list. In the mean time there is a work around in that you can put different board textures in different folders and create separate custom games for each folder. Then you can practice on those textures independently and see you results isolated to whatever textures you put in each folder on the summary screen.

The reordering of the buttons is actually already implemented and should go out in the next update quite soon

Being able to set the size of the blind in custom drills / games is also on our todo list.

It definitely can be worth setting the Pio river accuracy to a higher value, depending on machine speed. Glad to hear that you found a setting that works well.

I'm not 100% sure as to the cause but I have two suggestions that might help. Can you try the following?
  1. Use only english characters in the file name (no accent marks)
  2. Try moving the .txt file out of the folder

Let me know if either of those help, if please send the pio solution file to support@simplepostflop.com and we'll debug from there.

Thanks!

Thank you for fast answer.

This :
  • Use only english characters in the file name (no accent marks)

solved the problem and I can get the poker table window.

That said, I can see another bug :
If folder "A" is inside folder "B", with folder "B" containing my .cfr pio solution file,
If the path that i choose for the custom game is the folder "A" path (i.e. G://blabla/blabla/A)
Then the SimpleGTOTrainer crashes right away when i click on "play".
Checking the box "recursive path" does'nt change that.

It is very limiting cause i have folders sorted by type of flops etc...

Glad the English title works. We will work on accepting other characters as well. Regarding the folder structure, let me see if I can reproduce it. If so we will fix it asap as that is definitely an annoying limitation.

Must say I absolutely love this.
As someone who is not at the level to be in need of Piosolver this is fantastic.
I would be interested in more "packs" although right now what is provided is just blowing my mind with the mixed strategies.

Awesome, that is great to hear! When the program goes out of beta we will have significantly more included training packs

Ability to organise custom games into folders would be good. Can see myself having a lot of spots, stack depths, positions and board textures, already my list of games is big. The ability to seperate and organise them would make things a lot easier.

Excellent suggestion, I've added it to our list, thanks!

It will depend a bit on the continued feedback that we get, probably in September or October.
