Aren't you tired to install your card and chip mods over and over again after PokerStars' updates? This tool will save you a lot of work! Just install and your software will always be up-to-date and you will never have to install your favorite mods again...

Note: On Windows 7 or Vista you have to set up "run as administrator" to get it to work!

Please report bugs...

Any problems?
There is no virus/trojan inside, but as everyone would say this, I can just suggest to scan it.

Made a short video to demonstrate how it works. You will see me installing cards and chips and how the tool is working. Well, there is not much to see because there is no update available, but recognize that the software is not trying to overwrite the modded files! If an update is available, the software will perform it, but the mods will stay. It's that simple...

Feedback appreciated!

Thank you very much for this nice tool. Finally it's possible to keep the Stars client updated without having to deal with the hassle of copying and re-editing files again and again. Great work m8!

I'd have a suggestion though: You should really write a detailled tutorial and/or improve your video for those who aren't familiar with modding, or, like me, used to put their modded files directly into a themes folder. I had to harass Jimmy a lot to help me figuring out how your tool works and that I now have to put my modded files into an xthemes folder since that's the only way to prevent them from being overwritten during updates. Surely I would have figured this out myself, as others will, but I still think a quick start guide would be very beneficial, as even a complete noob would be able to set everything up within minutes.

One question: Sometimes a new client version would not work with an old ini file, for instance when they add new essential lines. Since your tool basically only prevents the gx.ini from being updated (if I got that right), this problem still persists, doesn't it?

Thanks again for this great tool; you saved me a lot of time and hassle!

Well, published this tool for all players like me, who are already using custom cards and chips but are sick of the update issue, nothing else. It has nothing to do with Themes, neither with XThemes nor GX.INI stuff, it just saves your modded cards and chips from updating. Using this tool is very simple, please don't think too complicated!

How to use:

If your software isn't modded, just start PokerStars and mod it, just as you are used to do it (with an installer or paste/extract the files into PokerStars' subfolder "gx/chips&deck"). Close it. Now most of you created a shortcut to PokerStars.exe to start the software directly without the updater. This is where my tool comes in: PokerStarsStartUp.exe simply starts the software as usual, with updater but without any effect to cards and chips. That's it!

Note:
This version here does not save any other mods than cards and chips from updating, like GX.INI modifications etc.

My apologies, not only that I messed alot of modded files up (ie. I kept them in the 'wrong' folders etc), it seems I also got the functioning of the tool wrong. My bad, didn't mean to let this look bad or complicated, obv it is not. Thanks for clarification.

Claret, I'm sure it's one of his own creations. Everything he shows up with uses to be plain awesomeness, be it cards, chips, software... he's just the man.

Thanks! This deck is my own creation, but it's not published yet. Will do this in near future on www.pokermods.tk/.

No problem! Modding is complicated. I'm trying to make it easier to use mods. Thanks for your compliments

Hm, I don't know much about these cards but I assume they don't need INI-modifications, so it should work with this tool. Do you have a messenger like AIM, Skype or MSN? I will try to find out what's the issue here.

The creator of this theme just helped me out and i've got the deck working. The program is virus free and is awesome if you are using mods for pokerstars .

Yes, already programmed a version which handles GX.INI modifications, it's included in upcoming themes on www.pokermods.tk/.

maybe this is a silly question, but if your not going to update the ini files, why update at all?

Because apparently sooner or later i will get forced by stars to make updates whether i like it or not. And i do not like it.

most (but not all) updates include updates to the default gx.ini file to add new features. The black theme gx.ini also includes lobby updates.

the other themes, usually only when there is an update specific to table features.

As a commercial modder, you need to embrace updates and be prepared to update your modified ini files - that's all I'm saying

PokerStars support custom themes which are based on the official themes but they don't support changes of GX.INI files at all. So, it's always a little risk to use unsupported themes with modified GX.INI files: it's possible that it's not working anymore after the next official update, as we could seen lately. Sure, after some pressure they changed it back but I guess it's just a temporary solution. It's something you'd better understand.

But surely, the themes will be more customizable in future, without the hassle of editing and crypting GX.INI files. Sure, as a commercial modder you need to keep your themes up-to-date, but back to topic: don't forget that there are a lot of people playing without mods at all or just playing with supported themes without any GX.INI modifications. Don't you think it's possible that they are happy with their table theme but would like to use different decks or custom chips?

Of course, cards and chips are not supported as well, but usually you don't need to edit any INI files to use them, you are able to copy the graphics into the folder right after you started the software and it simply works. You are not forced to restart as with GX.INI stuff. And IMO the risk that cards and chips will not work after updates in near future is lower. Anyway, my tool is free and as long there is no other way to change the deck/chips it has a right to exist. I've applied a lot of effort into programming because it's so useful for me, so why not for others?

I'm not slamming the tool. It is perfect for preserving modified card and chip graphics. There are probably thousands of users who should use it.

i'm just saying if the tool starts copying and re-implanting gx.ini files, then it is no longer an update utility - and becomes pretty much useless.
