By the way - I have not forgotten about the improvements and fixes I've promised

I'm currently doing some tests and trying out some stuff and I think I'm going to rewrite this from scratch rather than add/change the current program. I'm not very happy with the design now (for one thing, I don't like the 'session window' being a separate window) and the general look and feel of the program could certainly be a lot slicker than it is atm.

Also, this project was partly a learning experience for me to learn a new language and way of coding - I've learned a lot since starting it and now see a lot of messy code and stuff that should've been done differently from the start.

If someone is desperately missing some of the promised features, I can certainly look into adding them to the current program though - if not, I'll probably leave it for the re-write.

As far as I can recall, the requested features still missing are:

- Settings should carry over from version to version (not really a problem if there's no new version though )

- Snooze button

- Possibility to manually set the start of a session

If I've forgotten any, or anyone has any additional ideas, please let me know.

Also, it seems like once an alarm is reached, other alarms for separate events aren't going off. So for example if I play past X minutes & get an alarm for it, then if I go below X bb's after that, no alerts are going off. Is it me or is that a glitch?

If you have the 'alert just once' box ticked, it will only trigger once, on the first target that is reached - if not, it should give an alarm for each.

Oh, and the rest of him is here:

The icon is made from the head of this picture, but yes, it's not as clear as it should be

Aaaahh.... Well all the more reason for a snooze feature, or a way to shut down ONE single alarm when you feel that you can/should keep playing even though the first alarm has been triggered. (See previous post arguing the value of that.)

Awesome Airedale (I think, no?) ... though something like this might work better for a tiny icon. Woof!

You can turn off individual alarms by unchecking the 'enable' checkbox for each, so if you just want each alarm once, it should work to have the 'alert just once' unchecked and then just uncheck each alarm as they are triggered.

But yes, a snooze (that keeps track of the individual alerts) is in the works.

And yes, he's an Airedale The plan was actually to turn the picture into a cartooney-like version, but the ps-tutorials I tried didn't really turn out well, so I went for the quick b/w version instead. Planning on re-doing it eventually

But if I have the "alert just once" turned off, I'd only hear that alarm once anyway (no?) , thus I woudln't need to disable that single alert when it went off. Maybe I'm confused though.

Either way, what about this scenario: an alarm goes off, I unchecked that single alert, then I re-check it. Will it reset and start over? So let's say X mins passes, and I uncheck & recheck -- will the timer (and only that one alert) essentially start over?

'Alert just once', if ticked, will only alert on the first target that is reached - so if you reach your hand target, the alert will sound, and then you will not have any further notification, regardless of what other targets are reached.

If 'alert just once' is not checked, the alert is repeated every time the check is performed (based on the second interval chosen in the 'check every x seconds' box. (Except for 'minutes played' which will give a warning once a minute regardless of the check interval).

So leaving 'alert just once' unchecked and then unchecking each 'enable' as those targets are reached, will give you a notification for each target, but no repeat notification for any of them.

No, it doesn't reset, so if the target is still reached (which it'll always be if it's based on time or hands played), the alarm will go off again. You can change the target though, so if you want, say another 50 hands, just make it 550 instead of 500.

Is it possible to enter more than one screenname for hero? Is sometimes play on multible sites simultaneously. Is it a problem for your program when these sites are in different timezones (=Handhistories with different times)?

Yes, but you have to do it by making an alias in HM/PT3 and then use the alias in ValueCheck.

'Options' -> 'Player aliases...' in HM, then 'Add alias' and add your different screennames to it in the 'players to attach to alias' box. Not sure where it is in PT3, but it shouldn't be hard to find.

No, that should not cause any problems.

Any changes/updates coming soon? Just checking in.

Well, it depends on your definition of 'soon'

I've been lazy the past few weeks because there's been a lot of good golf weather and lots of barbecue and wine-on-the-terrace weather. Not that the weather has been that great, but it's been good enough

I also spent/wasted a week looking into a different tool for developing that turned out to be not at all what I thought it was and, while interesting, not really any use for this program.

I'm still planning a total re-write of the program to get a better user interface and better functionality but it will probably take a couple of weeks still.

Thanks for the interest though - it does help the motivation

Just a quick update so noone thinks I've given up on this

The framework for the new version is mostly done - the whole program has been cleaned up with a new interface which should hopefully make it a bit less cluttered.

Still a bit to do, so it'll be a week or two (or maybe three) before anything is ready for release.

Cool piece of software, one small annoyance which may be just me. Neither the main window not the session check window are remembering their positions on the desktop after being closed - would be really nice if they did.

It's not just you
This will be fixed in the new version.

Another quick update which should hopefully be the last before the actual release of the new version.

Most of it is done - currently it's just lacking the snooze-functionality and a bit of testing and fine polishing + adding some basic functionality around minimizing and stuff like that.

Release probably won't be next week, but hopefully the week after that.

Havn't tested this as am currently busto from tilting off my roll LDO

Doesn't look like there is a lockout tool like there is on other stoploss software (TiltBreaker), do you have any plans to implement this?

The main reason I made this program was because I did not like that particular functionality in the existing programs that were out there, so no

It's made with quite the opposite philosophy of a hard lockout, in that it gives you all the flexibility of ignoring any warnings if you want. You can also change targets and values on the fly and, in the upcoming version, choose to snooze for as long, and as often, as you want to avoid the alerts.

It's meant as simple alternative for those who do not need the added functionality that the commercial programs offers, but are just looking for a tool that will tell them when certain targets have been reached.

For all the other stuff, you either have to get one of the commercial alternatives or invest in a good book on discipline and self control

Great stuff but unfortunatly its quite useless for all of us that play multiple sites . Would be awesome if you would allow aliases or a list of nicknames at least so it could sum up the win/losses.

Tiltdemon also have an shutdown-thing which is quite important i think but that is probably pretty demanding programming-wise.

Aliases should work fine?

i keep getting this message when i try to put my screen name, "database could not be read. please check configuration."

I'm using HM and went to database management to look at my settings and they were all the same as the one you provided except my pw was dbpass so i put that in the configuration and pressed save, but i still get same message when try to type my name.

Have you checked that the database name is the same as for your HM-database (no missing/additional spaces or stuff like that)? (clicking 'connect' on HMs Database Management screen should show you the name of the database).

As long as they're all identical, ValueCheck should be able to find and read the database.
