My answer:

Yes there is a slightly simpler way to specify that type of range.

For your AAT9 example you can do:

[a*]a & t9 (for ss)

[a**]a & t9 (for ts)

The above means give me all single suited aces that also (AND) have a t and a 9.

To get ts and ss you would do:

([A**]A | [A*]A*) & T9

so the above says "all single OR triple suited aces that also contain (AND) T9.

So to extend the example above to give your full range you would do

([A**]A | [A*]A*) & (98|87|76|j9|t8|97|q9|j8)

Apparently the underlying code for 7-card stud simulations does not know that, in the case of an eight-player table, there is but a single 7th-street card which is dealt face up. This explains why I can run sims with seven players, but not with eight.

Here is the error I receive when trying to simulate 7-card stud with eight players:

Hmm, I think that also explains why my server was getting pegged at 100% cpu usage sometimes

Pokenum is hanging when 8 players are used. So, unfortunately 8 player sims aren't going to be possible but I will put in a fix to ensure there is a warning about that.

I think for 5-card-draw ihis program would be most useful if it calculates my chance of winning after the draw.

At the moment, I believe PokerHands assumes Player 1 and Player 2 are at showdown.

What I would like to see is Player 1 draws 3 cards, Player 2 draws three cards and we see the chance for each to player to win after drawing cards at showdown.

I wonder if this sort of thing can be incorporated into the program?

In software, how is the percentage of time vilain folds to ash calculated? When playing cards, there are usually historical statistics, but there are no historical statistics here. How do you know the percentage of player actions? Is this a hypothesis test? Is it calculated through a calculation formula? How to calculate?
