I will try and answer some of your questions. Hopefully, one of the real experts will jump in here and bail my a$$ out, or correct anything they think should be corrected.

Not knowing where you installed fpdb, I will use my install for the purpose of answering you. Mine is located..
c:\Program Files\fpdb\python\fpdb.py
You should check the icon you have, right click on it, click on "properties" and make sure it is pointing to the location either similar to above, or wherever your fpdb is installed and you will find the fpdb.py file

1. I am running XP, so would it still be better to upgrade to python 2.6?
From everything I've heard in this forum, YES, it seems to be the preferred update. The coders may feel free to jump in and correct me if they feel differently.

2. With regards to security, on XP I have the following options after right clicking on the python 2.5 icon: First, I selected "sharing and security", then it says, "To share with others, drag into the Shared Documents folder." Is that what I should do?
I don't think that is necessary. Haven't used XP for a long time and forget. If you have the option of "run as administrator" somewhere under the properties, then make sure that is checked for the python directory itself. Maybe someone running XP can help me out here.

3. I set up postgresql some time ago. I tried to change the password to ensure it's correct, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. However, I clicked "start service" and checked the task manager to ensure postgre.exe is running. Is it safe to ensure that I do not have any problems with the correct password for the database?
This is my suggestion since it appears you don't have access to your password, and that means you haven't fixed the config file with the correct password. I would install the Mysql database instead of postgres. That way you start from scratch, have the preferred database, and will know for sure the password.

4. How do I check the config file to ensure it is correct?
You go to the directory \fpdb\pyfpdb\hud_config.xml.example
That is the file containing the example config file. You now have to personalize it to your installation. Once you make the changes necessary, you then should "save as" with the file name "hud_config.xml" without the .example after the file name. Here is the main area you need to address. I will show what mine looks like and highlight in red the areas you need to make YOUR way. This is near the bottom of the file. Just right click on the file above, click edit and it should open up in Notepad for editing. Go to the bottom of the file... here's mine...
<supported_databases>
<database db_ip="localhost"
db_name="fpdb"
db_pass="
abcdef"
db_server="
mysql"
db_type="fpdb"
db_user="fpdb"/>
<!-- <database db_ip="localhost" db_name="fpdb" db_pass="fpdb" db_server="sqlite" db_type="fpdb" db_user="fpdb"/> -->
</supported_databases>
As I mentioned, you have to change the items in red to whatever database you decide to use, and the password for that database so that the FPDB program can access it properly. Hope that helps some. Others feel free to jump in and correct anything I might have done wrong.
