I hope for this as well. I tried following the instructions but I am a little too basic it would seem.

pretty anxious to help out as best I can (I can represent the "avg." class at some step)

I don't know much about this type of software development, but I assume that right now the focus is on the internal structure of the program, making it as speedy and efficient as possible (and of course accurate). But eventually the exterior design (how it "looks") will evolve to be user-friendly and pretty, right?

Also, I know that Steffan is adding lots of stat categories right now, but when do the filters start getting added (eg: looking at different hands, different board textures, etc). That I assume is a humongous job.

This project is so darn exciting....

First I want to address the installation in Windows issue, someone has just stepped up and is looking into doing that with NSIS

Well, to an extent. Right now my main focus is to get the main overall structure into a reasonable state and getting the main features in. There's simply so many things missing, such as graphs/reports and autorating.

So you're right, usability is not my main focus right now. However, if someone sends in patches I'd definitely include them. If you want to make requests the best way really is to open a feature request at sourceforge. Or if its something minor just drop me a mail or PM

No, fpdb is certainly NOT dead.

Steffen is working on the next alpha.

On the website (http://fpdb.sf.net) I have uploaded a new installation guide for windows with many screenshots and a detailed description of the process.

I am the new webmaster for fpdb.sf.net. The installation guide is the first thing that I have changed. It was done about 16 hours ago but I didn't get a reaction from Steffen yet. So I didn't post it here. Now you know.

fpdb is in active development and the website will be updated regularly.

I will keep you guys updated about website changes if you want.

Hi everyone,
we are proud to announce the second alpha release of fpdb, the free/libre open source poker tracker. The biggest highlight is the HUD for Linux made by Ray (and perhaps Mac, not sure). But for everyone fpdb now also supports PS tournaments (SnG and MTT) and FTP ring games. There is also a new auto-importer though it currently only runs on one file per instance (but you can open multiple instances of fpdb).
Fpdb also parses alot of new situations into the cache table for the HUD, most of which are already available through the Linux HUD. There have also been a large number of bugfixes for all kinds of things. For full details of the changes see the git commit comments.

You can download fpdb at https://****************/project/show...roup_id=226872

Our website at http://fpdb.****************/ will be updated shortly but in the meantime please note that the configuration file now resides in ~/.fpdb/default.conf on Linux/Mac and in C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\fpdb\default.conf on Windows (on non-English Windows you have to translate the Documents and Settings, but not the Application data bit). Apart from that just follow the instructions on the site. I will be updating/improving the fpdb ebuild for Gentoo next week, please send me a PM or email if you would like a package for another Linux/BSD.

To use the HUD in Linux simply run the auto importer whilst having the table open. You will also have to rename HUD_config.xml.example to HUD_config.xml and edit the database parameters in there in addition to what is written in the install guide.

If you've been using fpdb alpha1 just delete the fpdb folder, follow the installation guide except for installing the dependencies, then run fpdb and run recreate tables. Note that you will have to reimport ALL your history files.

For external devs (in particular Youre Toast): The table design has gone through some changes, though most of it was just renaming to make a consistent naming scheme and to make it more flexible towards stud/razz type games. I do not expect to having to make any future changes to the existing fields but I cannot yet guarantee that. There will be some additional fields in particular in the HudCache table. Please let me know if you need any further fields. I realise my naming breaks the "database designer's convention" but for this project I feel ignoring this convention for the benefit of consistent naming between Python and SQL is ok.

Any questions and comments please post here, send me a PM or email, post a feature request or bug report on sourceforge or use any of the other means of contact listed on our webpage.

Enjoy,
The fpdb team

PS: I personally will be away from tomorrow till Tuesday so I probably won't be responding to anything but feel free to message me anyways, but if you post here or at SF someone else might be able to help quicker.

PPS: If you wanna know EXACTLY how this project is moving along follow the git tree over at http://www.assembla.com/spaces/fpdb/trac_git_tool

I looked up the Badugi rules and it looks very interesting. So I want to try and get draw support into fpdb soon as well, in preparation for supporting Badugi, hopefully in time for PS' release.

Oh and please do open feature requests for anything you want (including usability and optical things) over at sourceforge, just don't be annoyed if it takes a while due to the early stage of fpdb development.

Hi all--

I wanted to add a few words about the HUD that I've been working on that is included in the new fpdb release.

About the HUD:

It is written in python, same as fpdb and is free and open source, just like fpdb. The current version of the HUD works for holdem cash games on PokerStars. It might work for STTs, but will NOT work for MTTs. fpdb will automatically launch the HUD when you start autoimporting. I have used the HUD for about 20k hands without a problem, but I did some hacking on it to get it to work with fpdb and have probably (certainly) introduced some bugs. I have also removed a couple of features: mucked cards display and detailed stats. I will add those features back soon. This version only works under Linux (+BSD, etc.)--if it is launched under any other OS it will just exit without doing anything. I wrote this with the intention that it would work with any game on any site and any database--each database and each site has to have some interface code, but that is small and fairly painless.

We will have a screenshot or two on the web site tomorrow.
Screenshots are here.

Configuration:

The configuration file is HUD_config.xml. You need to enter the same database information that you added to the fpdb default.conf file. That info is added about 2 lines from the bottom of the file. Look for the CAPS. Steffen and I will integrate the config files, but we prefer to squash bugs and add features right now. The config file has stat layouts for PokerStars 6, 8, 9, and 10 handed tables and will look OK with the Hyper-Simple theme. It is easy to move the windows around if you use a different theme or don't like where they are. Editing the config file to change the stat window location is easy too. You also select the stats to display in the config file.

Running the HUD:

It starts automatically when you start autoimport in fpdb. You will not acutally see anything until fpdb imports a hand. When the stat windows appear you can drag them around by alt-select-dragging. Alternatively you can double click on a stat and the window title bar will appear. Then drag around by the title bar. Double click again and the title bar disappears. Each stat has a tool tip with (slightly) more information.

The stats are filtered. You will get stats for the stakes and game you are currently playing. We can add options for more or less filtering later. You will get a stat window for yourself--including all of your stats in the db (with the same filtering). Just minimize it to get it out of the way if you wish.

Here's what I'm planning on working on in the short term:
1. Keeping up with Steffen.
2. Squashing bugs.
3. Fixing a few ugly hacks I have left scattered about the code.
4. Adding more stats.
5. Detailed stat popup.
6. Mucked cards display for flop games (implemented for stud games).
7. Support for Windows. This is where I could use help from someone who knows his way around Windows and python. I can show you the code that is not compatible with windows--it is one 20 line function. So if you want to work on this, send me a pm.
8. Table stats and a means to kill individual HUDs.
9. Resizeable windows.
10. Favorite seat.
11. Full Tilt support.

I would be very happy to hear about your successes and problems, especially bugs, with the HUD.

Here is the current list of stats that are supported in the HUD:
vpip
pfr - includes 3rd street raises for stud games
n = number of hands observed
wtsd = went to showdown when saw flop
wmsd = won $ at showdown
saw_f = saw flop/4th street
steal = steal %
f_SB_steal = folded SB to steal
f_BB_steal = folded SB to steal
three_B_0 = 3 bet % preflop/3rd
WMsF = won $ when saw flop/4th
a_freq_1 = aggression freq flop/4th
a_freq_2 = aggression freq turn/5th
a_freq_3 = aggression freq river/6th
a_freq_4 = aggression freq 7th
cb_1 = continuation bet flop/4th
cb_2 = continuation bet turn/5th
cb_3 = continuation bet river/6th
cb_4 = continuation bet 7th
ffreq_1 = fold freq flop/4th
ffreq_2 = fold freq turn/5th
ffreq_3 = fold freq river/6th
ffreq_4 = fold freq 7th

The database/hand import/etc. should work fine on a mac. There is some coding needed to get the HUD to support the mac, similar to what is required for Windows support. I have not coded for a mac in a long time and no longer have access to one. If someone wants to get the HUD going on the mac, I will show you where the mac code needs to go--PM me. As with Windows support, this can probably be done in about 20 lines of code.

Edit: I just looked at this page and I leads me to believe that mac support is still some time away because the gtk libraries are not running natively on mac os yet. See this page. If you are interested in this project and want to give it a go using the X11 library, then PM me and I'll try to give you a hand.

Thanks
