It turned out quite a few people I knew had used it, but every single one of them, without fail, told me that TN2 was absolutely terrible and that they much preferred using TN1. I thought I'd come in here and put this to you and see if I can get a perspective from the people responsible as I would assume that you could easily refute such claims and explain to us exactly why we should be using TN2 over TN1 and, why you decided to launch an upgrade that most people think is actually a downgrade.
I look forward to your reply, as I'm sure a lot of other TN users do (and hope you don't just get this post deleted to save yourselves the hassle of having to reply).
Hi PokerRon,
I'm the lead developer of TN2, so I'll try and give you some background on the program and list a few of the key new features that TN2 has to offer.
TN2 is not an incremental improvement to TN1, TN2 has been rebuilt from the ground up with a new engine because we had a lot of new ideas and features that we wanted to create that the TN1 engine just wasn't designed for. Unfortunately, because TN2 was built on a new engine, initially it wasn't as stable/user friendly as TN1, which had been battle tested for years by thousands of users and had all its kinks worked out.
In retrospect, we launched TN2 too early and we should have kept the program in beta for significantly longer. That upset a lot of our customers - and rightly so. It was our mistake and we apologize. It resulted in our team investing countless hours to resolve issues as soon as possible and in implementing improvements to the user interface.
In the last year, we have had close to 100 updates and we have some big new features in the pipeline for the next few months. We've made massive progress since the initial launch and TN2 is only going to keep getting better. My hope is that most of the people you spoke to haven't tried TN2 recently and that they based their opinions off of early versions of the program.
We currently have a 60 day free trial, which is one of the longer free trials in the industry so I encourage you to download the program and give it a try yourself and form your own opinion. At this point I think TN2 has many clear advantages over TN1 and that gap is only going to grow as we roll out new features over the coming months.
Here's some of the biggest reasons to update to TN2 today:
1. Multi-site: You can play at PokerStars, FullTilt and Party at the same time. iPoker support is in early beta, we plan to add 888 in the near future (2-4 months) and Winamax if possible. TN2 completely manages all your tables so that you can play on FullTilt right alongside PokerStars and it makes sure that your tables all pop up at the proper time with no conflicts. TN2 makes it feel like all your tables are from a single site, which is something TN1 never even attempted to do.
2. Betting filters: In TN2 you can apply filters to both your default bets and your betting hotkeys. Say you have a hotkey that bets the usual 80%/70%/60% (flop/turn/river), but you want to customize it for blind levels (for tournaments). You can add filters like, When 'bb > 1000', the same hotkey should be 60%/40%/35%, and so on. We're currently working on adding position based filters so that you can specify different raise/3bet amounts based on your position. The initial Stars only version of this feature should be out in 2-3 weeks.
3. Layouts: TN2 will layout your tables with standard layouts (Stacked, Tile, Cascade) across multiple monitors (or you can filter out which monitors you want to use for other stuff) and the layouts manage all your tables across sites. We also added the new Ninja Tile layout. Your tables start stacked and tables where you're involved in a hand are automatically placed into a grid until the hand ends (at which time it's placed back into stack). We have plans to add some new advanced Ninja Tile options in the next few months.
4. Responsiveness: TN2 is very responsive on 20+ tables. In our latest tests, it's about 2 - 2.5 times faster than TN1.
If you use an SSD, it's lightning fast - on my laptop, the average response time last time I tested 25 PS tables was 9 milliseconds.
5. More hotkeys: TN2 has 10 Set-table-aside slots (TN1 has 4) and TN2 lets you create an unlimited number of betting hotkeys.
6. More "Display" (formerly know as OSD) stats: We've added a bunch of new options such as, the Table Number, Harrington's M for tournaments, how many tables need action (in case you play stacked), etc.
7. Advanced options for popping up tables when action is required: Because the TN2 engine manages popping up tables, rather than relying on the sites to do it, we can give you lots of customizable advanced options that were not possible in TN1. As a simple example, we can pop up tables in a non-intrusive manner, such that if you type in Skype, you can set TN2 to popup the active table behind Skype (and then you can "Cycle to First in Line" to it when you wish).
The new TN2 engine takes direct control of popping up and laying out tables rather than leaving that to the poker sites and this, combined with the improved performance is what has enabled us to add some of the major new features above and we have more big additions on the way.
Hopefully the list above gives you an idea of what TN2 has to offer, and like I said before, I suggest you just download the free trial and see form your own opinion. Once you've given the program a try, we'd love to hear any feedback you have, both on how we can make TN2 better and on how we can make upgrading from TN1 to TN2 simpler and more intuitive.
Best,
John
