It is with great pleasure that I announce the addition of stud and stud-8 simulators to the ProPokerTools lineup. This has been by far the most requested feature in the last year or so, and I am grateful that I finally found some time to implement it. Feedback is greatly appreciated, either via this forum or by emailing support at propokertools.

Stud simulator is here

Stud hi/lo simulator is here

Thanks for the new tools. I love the razz simulator and I'll put the stud8 simulator to good use.

There is an error on the Beta site when generating a 2+2 compatible table:

ProPokerTools Stud Hi/Lo Simulation
600,000 trials (Randomized)
dead cards: 3s
Hand Pot equity Scoops Wins HiTies HiWins Lo Ties Lo
7c6c2c7d48.57% 205,483255,86929177,958
**TdAc29.09% 110,140199,4449044,760
**Jd6h22.34% 78,279144,57610352,943

As you can see, the pipe character (= "|") which is required (for some strange reason) for every single stud hand is generating an unnecessary column in the bottom half of the table, and this in turn bumps the results over leaving the column headings misaligned.

Good catch, thank you! I'll be happy to fix the pipe outputting issue for you. As for the annoyance of the pipe character itself, I agree - I have a number of outstanding todo items on the stud syntax.

Thank you.

Is there any prospect of getting starting hand rankings for Razz? Obviously A23 is best, A24 is second best, and so on. But which is best between 789, A2J, and 56T?

HE & Omaha hand rankings are at:

I can understand the inherent difficulty of ranking Stud & Stud 8 hands, but it shouldn't be too challenging to rank Razz starting hands (using the same method as was used for Hold'Em and Omaha), should it?

Description of the hand ranking algorithm used by ProPokerTools at:

I could generate hand rankings using the same method for razz, stud, and stud-8, yes. That might be a fun exercise. I'll add it to my rapidly expanding list of things to do.

Integrating percent of hands in the simulator for these games, on the other hand, is a little trickier. What does the top 10% of hands mean if you have a 7 of hearts as your door card?

Well, I'm just wanting "half a loaf" which, in this case, would be a simple ranking without respect to which cards are upcards. This would have the effect of ignoring, for example, in Stud High when your AhKh|7h is drawing slim due to upcards in opponents hands of Ac, Kd, 6h, Qh, Th, Js, and 7s. But it would also have the effect of ignoring when your cards are extremely live (eg., no A, K, Q, J, 7, or heart is showing) so it should balance out, to a certain extent. It would elevate hands that tend to dominate at the expense of hands that tend to be dominated, even when the dominated hand does not know this (since the upcards often do not show when a hand is in bad shape). I suspect hands like a 3-flush headed by only one high card (A or K or Q) would fall into the dominated category quite frequently.

Roll-out sims that reiteratively pit the "good hands" against other "good hands" would still have a lot of value, and might even contain some surprises. And in the particular case of Razz, I think that the hand ordering resulting from such reiterative sims would be highly useful indeed. But I see that you have a very long "to do" list and these sims should perhaps not be a priority.
