I've been at 1 table for 5 minutes and stats are yet to appear. Does table size matter, or is it just super laggy? Stars btw.

Poker Tracker 3 and PostgreSQL problem

Hello,

After I download PT3 onto my computer and install it, I keep running into the same problem. I open Poker Tracker and a screen pops up that says "Configure PostgreSQL server." It has a box for "server," "database user," "port," and "password." All of these boxes are full with the exception of password. The two tabs are "connect" and "cancel." When I click "connect," it says "unable to connect to the databse, please check the configuration." I have looked at the configuration files in the program folder, but I'm not really sure what they mean. How can I fix this?

Thanks

There isn't a due date. They are aiming for mid-May.

It was already addressed, IIRC, in the newest beta 9 release.

Frankly, I don't quite understand how a company can release a
"new improved" version, and charge extra money, for something
which lacks the basic functionality of the old program.

This is bad business, in my opinion.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. PT3's tournament support is nearly identical to PT v2's. There may be a few minor features missing or not fully complete, but nothing major. What is PT3 missing that you need?
Specifically, PT3 is missing the ability to autoimport PokerStars tournament
summaries via email or a POP3 account. It also lacks the "manual import"
capability of PokerTracker, which determines which tournament summaries
are missing and automatically sends requests to PokerStars to email the
missing summaries.

This is not some minor feature, but is a major component of any tracker
that is to be used by tournament players. Suppose, for example, that an
active player plays 120 sit and gos and 3 tournaments a day. Is he
expected to write down his results on a piece of paper and then go
back and manually enter these results one by one into PT3? This would
take hours a day, and it basically renders PT3 unusable for tournament
players.

A second example of a major difference between PT3 and PokerTracker.
Suppose you play just 1 tournament a week- the PokerStars Sunday
Million. 7325 entries, 1018 prizes, for example. In PokerTracker
I can import a single tournament summary and have the prize/finish
data on all of my opponents. In PT3 it would take many hours of manual
labor to input the prize/finish data for the 1018 finishers, an unrealistic
task.

If you look at the very next post following mine, NoodleMan echoes
the same sentiments:
Quote:

So the lack of an import capability is by no means minor, but is one
of the key underpinnings of any tracker to be used by all but
the most casual tournament player.

Quote:
You also need to keep in mind that that commercial release is not the final release. We will continue to expand PT3's functionality for years after the initial commercial release.
Of course you will, and I have no doubt that that support will be first
rate. The support for PokerTracker and PAHud was truly excellent, and
I have no doubt that that will continue with PT3.

I don't mean to be too harsh on you with the above criticisms. I think
you are doing a great job. PokerTracker was long in the tooth and needed
to be replaced. The approach you are taking by starting from scratch
is certainly the correct one. And your responsiveness in these
threads is excellent. Kudos to you for that. But you need to recognize
three things:
  1. Many PokerTracker customers are tournament players.
  2. PT3 lacks the basic import functionality required for a tournament tracker.
  3. Therefore, tournament players will not buy PT3 and will be forced to
    continue with PokerTracker.

Now, as long as the product is in Beta, these issues are not a problem.
I understand you have a big project on your hands, with limited resources,
and you choose to allocate those resources on features/enhancements
that may be of greater import to more customers.

But why the rush to commerically release a product which lacks the
basic tournament functionality of its predecesor? What's the rush?
This is what I think is unacceptable- not only for me, but for any PokerTracker customer who plays tournaments or sit and gos seriously.

PT3 looks very nice, and its off to a promising start. By continuing to
work on key features while in beta you can achieve the goal of
releasing a successor to PokerTracker which is its equal or superior
in every way.

I hope you will think about the implications of a premature commercial
release, and I also hope that you will reconsider the priority of
providing a tournament summary import capability as soon as possible.

Regards,
Jonathan

I will look into the first problem. For the second, you need to save your layout after making changes to it.

Table size shouldn't matter and it shouldn't be laggy. Please reproduce the problem and attach the PokerTracker.log file to a support ticket.

You can copy the Data\Layouts.pt3 file to a new computer. There's currently no way to import/export.

Go to our support system and open a new ticket. Under the area where you type in your problem, there's an "Attach File" area. Click on the Browse... button, find your PokerTracker.log file in the PT3 directory, then click Attach. Type in a description of your problem and hit submit.

In addition to your log file, also attach the hand histories for a tournament that is causing the problem you described.

Which issues are you referring to specifically? PT3 doesn't auto fill the place/winnings information during import. It's a process you have to do afterwards in the Enter Results window.

Do you have PostgreSQL installed on your computer? If you don't, you'll need to download the version of PT3 with PostgreSQL and let it install for you.

All the sites PT2 supports and hopefully more.

All he has to do is request his last 123 tournaments, copy and paste the results of the email to a text file and let PT3 import that. Not difficult and a minor inconvenience until the auto-request and email features works.

No, just get the tournament summary from PokerStars and import that into PT3. A few minutes of work.

I think you don't realize that PT3 CAN import tournament summaries... it just doesn't read your emails yet. You just need to copy+paste from the email and import the file instead.

I think a lot of your criticism comes from the misconception that PT3 doesn't import tournament summaries, but it does. I hope that I've cleared that up.

In the Configure Statistics window, find the "3Bet Total" stat. Go to the Colors tab. In the Condition Expression area, type : "#3Bet Total# >= 0 AND #3Bet Total# <= 30" (substitute the actual numbers with whatever you want). Double-click the Color to change and check the Hud/Tracker options depending on which you want to use the color. Save your changes and reset the Hud on your tables. It should use the new color condition.

You are right, I didn't realize this! That goes a long way towards
addressing my criticisms.

So the only shortcoming, relative to PokerTracker, is that it does not
request and read the tournament histories from emails directly.
Is this a big job to add? Do you think you could provide this
functionality prior to commercial release?

Thanks,

Re: PokerTracker 3 (Beta 9 Release - 23-Apr-2008) - incl. HUD!

I installed PT3 beta 9 today and i can't really use it, because it is so so slow!

My computer: core2duo 2.6ghz / 2gb ram / winXP. I play on Full Tilt (8-14 tables).
postgresql was installed before, so i use my old postgres installation to create a new pt3-database.

With PT2/PaHUD, everything works perfectly fast. With PT3, it needs 10 seconds to display player-stats when clicked on a name on the left (player has 5 hands in DB).
The HUD is already set to solid, but absolutely useless when playing 12 tables, because it makes my computer so slow that i cant play any more. Taskmanager that PA3 uses 48% CPU.

When i switch back to PT2/PAHUD, everything works great again.

Is this a common problem or is something wrong with my setup? should i completely clear my postgresql installation and install it new? any suggestions?

It's not an enormous job, but I think it might have to wait until after initial commercial release. You can help out by getting some of those emails to us. If you have a way to extract the entire email message, that would be perfect.

It's not a common problem, but there are a few people experiencing it. Please reproduce this problem and attach the PokerTracker.log file to a support ticket. Be sure you include a description of your problem.

Q. about clustering: If I kill the process whilst it is clustering, will it adversely affect the DB? Can I kill it, then peforem the cluster/analyze at a later date.

It is taking forever (very large db of datamined hands) and I kinda need to reboot.

I would recommend not interrupting the process. You may end up with a corrupted database and have to reimport.

Re: PokerTracker 3 (Beta 9 Release - 23-Apr-2008) - incl. HUD!

"Do you play more than one table at the same time? What report are you looking at for hours played?"

I'm looking at the general tab, player stats. If I filter PT2 and PT3 for in between 4/1 and 4/15, PT2 says 25240 hands, PT3 says 25058. Fine. The winnings are within a thousand of each other so thats insignificant as well. The hours tab says 51.28, where PT2 calculates it (692 hands an hour) to be 36.449 hours. Sessions by time's hourly is correct, but the hours are still drastically off.

EDIT: I just realized I was looking at the wrong tab so I did sessions by time instead and its still the same issue.
