Most of the people we are encouraging to upgrade to PokerTracker 4 get it for free, there is no money exchanged, it is in their best interest to make the switch in the long run. Everyone else gets it for an insanely low discount if they are upgrading from PT3. We are encouraging the upgrade because in around 1 months time PokerTracker 3 will no longer be sold, and we are no longer providing any new poker room feature support, for example if Stars releases a new tournament type then it will not be supported in PT3. We will continue to push out occasional
fixes when necessary (but nothing new, only fixes) for a period of 2 years after PT4 was released which leaves you with only 1 year and 4 months left of basic fixes. It is in our best interest to get as many players as possible switched over which is why we offered the free upgrade to users who purchased after Jun 10 2011, this allows us to focus our resources best rather than running in circles to support users stuck using old software - and in turn provide a better experience to our users. If you want to stick with PT3 then that is your prerogative, but over time you will be on your own with no recourse. In fact some people are already finding that they are hitting brick walls due to missing feature support in PT3 that was made available in PT4... its the nature of the software industry, developers always move forward building upwards.
PS: You mentioned switching to HM2 but if you need a new computer just to run PT4, then you would certainly need a new computer to run HM2 also because it uses more system resources than PT3 or PT4 does. That of course is your prerogative, but be aware that the computer issues would remain. With that said most of our users shouldn't need a new computer, but fieldyb is unique in that he happens to need a new computer even if he sticks with PT3 due to issues which were not discussed in that last post. It was a personal message between our support team which has intimate understanding of his issues and fieldyb.. this is not a message we normally share and was aimed only towards him
