New Toys

Okay so I have had a lot of success over the past 2 months and now have poker tracker and ninja to help sustain profitability with volume.
So far I have used tracker for simple things like how much they 3 bet or fold to 3 bet, how often they open first in. I still feel like there is so much on PT I'm not utilizing. Especially when I'm playing 10+ games at a time. Does anyone have a "hit list" of stats or data they look right at?

One more specific question. Based off stats and limited show downs how do i tell the difference between a lag expert and lag moron?

There are a few example HUDs available for download from the "Get More" section, and you can see what Kraada users, and how he built it, here: How To: Advanced HUD Configuration.

That can be tricky to tell, until you have a very large sample size to establish a solid win/loss rate. You may get some tips on specific stats to look at in the strategy forums, though.

Re: PokerTracker v3.08 Official Release (60 day trial)

I am about to install Poker Tracker 3 on my computer. I already have Hold Em Manager; would it be advisable to have both use the same database?

I am not saying that I would necessarily do this, but would it be possible to have Hold Em Manager and Poker Tracker running at the same time, playing on 2 different poker sites?

Re: PokerTracker v3.08 Official Release (60 day trial)

Hey there 2+2
Quick question, thanks in advance

Under the summary section, is the rake amount listed what I've paid in rake or is it table's entire rake from each hand?

I'm using Full tilt, played around 1200 hands at no-limit tables between .10 and .20 and $.50 and $1, and the rake totals $430. I signed up to a whole host of sites before I knew about rake back, so I can't check it that way either, oops.

PT3 and HEM have incompatible database structures - you won't be able to use your HEM database in PT3. However, we do both use PostgreSQL - using the same PostgreSQL installation for both pieces of software will work fine and is almost certainly much easier than running two instances of PostgreSQL side-by-side just for the purposes of poker software.

As far as I'm aware there are no incompatibilities with running our software alongside HEM's and you should be able to have both running and importing without any problems (I'm not sure what happens if you try to turn the HUD on from both pieces of software on the same table though).

In the top report (Site Summary) Rake there is total rake paid from all hands. If you add Rake to the bottom report (Player Summary) the rake there would be the rake that the player in question paid (ie- they won the pot and that was the rake removed from it).

I think that right now, I actually have Hold Em manager working off the same database that Poker Tracker used to use. Hold Em manager did have to, I think, reimport everything. I wonder if that extra "unreadble/incompatible" junk in there would slow up HEM's performance.

Speaking of which, would it ever make sense to have more than one database for Poker Tracker to use? I have a lot of hand histories- would it be good to have more than 1 database when I am trying to do analysis on hand histories?

Yep, it's 100%, I usually do the 10k recommended actions whenever it isn't 100%. There's no difference in the HUD problem after this.

Re: PokerTracker v3.08 Official Release (60 day trial)

I had the trial version and now I have the key to get full access. I have not used the program in a long time. Can you please tell me which of the files in my start menu is the appropriate one:
Poker Tracker 3
Poker Tracker 3 (logging enabled)

Since this version is a year old, would it be easier for me to just uninstall and re-install?

Let me use an analogy to attempt to explain what is going on.

Assume you have two friends Mr. P and Mr. H. Mr. P only speaks Portuguese and Mr. H only speaks Hungarian. You want to be able to talk to both Mr. P and Mr. H so install a telephone in your house. You can talk to one or the other on the phone, but they cannot talk to each other as they do not speak the same language. But they both can speak to you using the telephone.

Mr. P is PokerTracker, Mr. H is Holdem Manager. The telephone is PostgreSQL. PokerTracker and Holdem Manager both use PostgreSQL. The physical databases that they use though are incompatible - so you'd need to reimport all of your hands to use one or the other. Their databases "don't speak the same language" - even though they're installed using the same program.

I hope that clears things up a bit?

Then please restart PT3 using the Logging Enabled link on your Start menu, reproduce and report this problem and we'll investigate further for you. The logs will help considerably in figuring out where the slowdown is coming from.

Either will work. However, upgrading is probably a good idea anyway - you don't need to uninstall, just download PT3 from our download page and run the installer with PT3 and your poker site closed, then start PT3 up and you should be good to go (though your database will likely need an upgrade which can take a few minutes).

Re: PokerTracker v3.08 Official Release (60 day trial)

From your commonly asked questions section on the poker Tracker WEbsite:

Stats are slow to retrieve in PokerTracker 3 and/or stats are slow to display/update in the HUD.

Databases grow with the number of hands that are imported and over time performance will start to slow down. It is imperative that you frequently run PokerTracker 3's Housekeeping via Database->Housekeeping. We recommend that you:

* CLUSTER: Every 50,000 - 100,000 hands
* VACUUM: Every 10,000 - 20,000 hands (same time as analyze)
* ANALYZE: Every 10,000 - 20,000 hands (same time as vacuum)
* UPDATE CACHE: Every 25,000 - 50,000 hands

---
Does this mean that I should import just some hands at a time and do this. I have a huge number of hand histories and I was going to import them all at once. However, would it be better to do some, do the maintenance, then do more? My computer is not real fancy and when I was using Hold Em Manager I was seeing performance problems when I was doing certain searches. Ie. search all players at 0.5/$1.0 vpip 40-45% & c/r on flop, to bring up all hand histories that meet those criteria.

I can't find the 'Logging Enabled" link on the start menu. Where exactly is it on the menu?

You should import all of your hands and run housekeeping at the end. Doing housekeeping on blocks of hands and then importing more will take longer overall.

If you don't have that you likely have an old version of PT3 and will need to update.
Download page
PT3 Build History / Release Notes
Either way, you can also enable logging from within PT3 - see the Tutorial: Submitting a Bug Report.

Re: PokerTracker v3.08 Official Release (60 day trial)

I don't understand how to use the reports.
First of all, what is the logical separation between "Hold Em Cash Player Statistics" and "HOld em cash hand." Will Hold em Cash player run the report on all of the players, and essentially return a list of players in our database, whereas the other one will show us a list of hands in our database?
What I am trying to do right now, is run a report to show the list of players in our database that has the highest fold to check raise on turn percentage, say the top 10, also filtering for us having at least 1000 hands on the villain.

Hi, I want to things to be added

1. Tables Note(HUD). I want to be able to put notes on table not on players. For example SNG16, MTT109. So when multitabling u can see clearly what table is this. It shouldn't be that hard, HUDoptions -> CreateNewGroup -> TableAverage->Notes.

2. Reset stats for current table. Or just my stats. For example Im playing MTT and my VPIP/PFR 80/40 ive been moved to another table, and i want to see different stats for that table not for whole MTT. Especially in rebuys.

Thank you.

Holdem Cash Player Statistics shows stats for a player (or players) and Holdem Cash Hands shows individual hands - see "Sections" in the Tutorial: Custom Reports and Statistics for more information.
For that specific report you'd want to use Holdem Cash Player Statistics with 'Filter on Active Player' turned off, and a custom filter of "Hands > 1000". If you include the stats you're interested in you can sort the report by clicking on the column header.

I'll pass your suggestions on to the development team. For 1 you can add notes to a tournament via the reports in the main application (Tournaments > Tournaments report), but there isn't currenly any way to display them in the HUD. 2 has been requested before but I will remind them about it.

What do you mean have "HOld Em cash player statistics" turned off? Shouldn't that be selected from the "section" dropdown?
I also clicked on the butotn "custom filters" but I don't see anything that says custom filters.

The link that you gave: is that the same as the guide that is under the help menu in Poker Tracker or is that perhaps more updated>?

The tutorial I linked is different to the Help menu link, and goes into more detail about custom stats and reports.

I didn't say that - I said "use Holdem Cash Player Statistics with 'Filter on Active Player' turned off". The tutorial I linked explains everything I mentioned, including using custom filters in custom reports. The 'Filter on Active Player' option means that stats are shown for all players rather than just the selected player.

Re: PokerTracker v3.08 Official Release (60 day trial)

Do you have PostgreSQL installed and working?
Do you see postgres.exe processes in Task Manager > Processes?

The user is "postgres" and the default password is "dbpass" but you could try "postgrespass" too as that is used by another tracker.

If that doesn't help, please check our Firewall Guide.

If that doesn't help click Start --> Run, type in "services.msc" (without the quotes) and hit enter. Locate the PostgreSQL service and attempt to start it. If it fails to start, click Start --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Event Viewer and click on Application in the top left pane. Look for an error in the top middle pane relating to PostgreSQL. Double click it to bring up the error message and paste or type it into a Support ticket and that will give us more detail as to what's keeping PostgreSQL from running.

I hope I'm only one with this problem, but is there a link or reference to fix the Stars HUD stats showing up in the replayer instead of the acutal table? I'm using version 3, build 5.2

Thanks,

Ok, I am trying to follow.
In the link that you sent me, it says...

Built-in reports
* Hands > Known Starting Hands Detail
* Hands > Known Final Hands Detail
* Sessions > Session Hands
* Positions > Position Hands Detail
* Winnings > Daily Hands

Where are these built in reports? I selected Holdem Cash Hand under the "secction" drop down. It's not showing those under the report dropdown. The report drop down is completely blank.

Also, in using the filters, I am trying to figure out how to filter hands where the player did not bet fold. IN the "facing" tab, under facing raise I have checked off face raise, call raise. However, I also want it to show cover hands where the player bet/3 bet or even bet/3 bet/ 5 bet // bet/3 bet/ call. I don't see how to specify this.

Thanks,
Build 5.2 is very ond now and you will need to update.

If that doesn't help then please report your problem so that we can investigate further.

They are the other tabs - the main reports in PT3. They are not custom reports.
You need to select a section and then create a new custom report as described in the tutorial.

To include specific actions go to the Actions tab. See the "Bet" action on the Actions > Flop tab.

That would need to be built as a custom stat. There are a few stats by specific positions available for download from the "Get More" section, but if the one you want isn't there see this tutorial on how to make a positional version of any stat.
