I don't get why you would rewrite the program, just add a better GUI, which up to date is nothing more special than PT's V2, (the hand filter could need some overhaul, PokerStove's one is a lot prettier), improve the import algorithm and add 3 bets.
I don't have direct access to the PT2 source, though I could get it if I needed it. I can't say how difficult it would be to support 8.3 in PT2, but the next beta of PT3 supports it.
The long startup time is due to loading all of the reports. This hasn't been optimized and will be reduced significantly once it is.
PT3 has a much more powerful, flexible framework than PT2. What you're seeing in this early beta is nothing compared to what PT3 will have in a few short months.
I'll say it again. Our emphasis to this point has been developing this framework that all the features will build off of. Don't judge a product by its early betas. We still have a long ways to go. Oh, and if you think an updated GUI, faster imports and 3 bets are the only features we've added, you obviously haven't used PT3 very much.
